*Starts slow clapping*

"Every time I clap my hands, it's another year less for civilization!"

Heckler "Then stop bloody clapping, you bastard!"

Oh, wait, wrong Irishman. It was the one that failed to WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!!!!

The comments on that page only reinforce my belief that things will not change in this country, nor world. Status quo will be the name of the game and it will take us right down the crapper.

Not talking about climate here. Just the us vs them mentality that those at the top need to keep us distracted while they continue raiding the henhouse.

FarkinNortherner: d23: He has been nicknamed "Sir Bob" by the Brit media. I doubt if the "Sir Bob" is meant as an accurate representation of his status.

Honorary knighthood in '86.

mafiageek1980: Also, fark HIM. Nearly 20 years later, I STILL feel he had a hand in the death of Michael Hutchence:

No, he really didn't. All he wanted was to see Paula happy, even if that meant her being with another man. He even spoke about their relationship at Paula's funeral (which I attended).

How do you explain this, then:

Good all those dirty, smelly things do is make a mess and expect someone else to clean it up.

Cool! Since nothing we can do in that timeframe could possibly impact global warming in any way, we may as well go nuts!

Heater and Air Contitioner on at the same time while I enjoy a nice fire in the fireplace then.

Yeah, looking back, not such a smart move, lol.

Bob Geldof is still an asshole though ;)

IPCC Bob, at it again.

Add this to all the other stupid predictions made by stupid people.

But just think how bad it will be if sea levels rise 30,000 feet!! Oh noez, that would be bad.

I can say from experience that, yes, Bob Geldof is an asshole, with every right to feel bitter, but I'm absolutely certain he wouldn't have had a hand in the death of Paula's lover and Tiger's dad because of the effect that would have had on them both.

Danger Avoid Death: Smackledorfer: trappedspirit: Just to keep things straight, it's flavor-aid not kool-aid.  They all drank flavor-aid.  Get in line for the flavor-aid and such as.  Why do people keep saying drink the kool-aid?  Get your facts closer to the facts!

The bulk of them also knew it was poison and only drank it because their kids would be shot instead of the sweet easy death of toxic flavoraid.

The survivors farking hate the way the phrase is used now.

I imagine the makers of Kool-Aid aren't exactly tickled pink lemonade by it either.

Dunno, that might be an all press is good press scenario.

So, if I don't believe the hyperbole of an aging has-been rocker, does this make me anti-science?

If I question the sanity of a man who thinks that 6+ billion people are ALL going to die in about 17 years, does that me a someone who's "brainwashed" by the oil companies?

Maybe, rock stars should stick to, you know, being in rock bands, or if they start to become a bad Karaoke imitation of themselves, Pete Townshend's Letterman appearance from about 15 years ago convinced me, maybe they should just retire, or at least do that whole "oldies circuit" thing.

No it does not. Nobody should listen to aging has-been rockers on matters of science. Of course, if you choose to listen to politicians and bloggers instead of scientists and evidence ... then you are anti-science.

Agreed to all points above. Let's all ignore all famous people, politicians, reporters, bloggers and oil execs when it comes to science.

Third_Uncle_Eno: THE GREAT CYCLE:

global warming/climate change in news = more interest in it = more funding for research = more scientists writing papers about it = more of them getting published =  more global warming/climate change in the news

It's not about climate change. It's all about money.

/thinks it's funny how they changed "global warming" to "climate change" to more suit their research ("see, now it can mean a temperature fluctuation BOTH ways, not just warming! now we have our ass covered!")
// spend your $ and time on other scientific research topics.
/// just a cycle. I highly doubt that earthlings caused ALL of this horrible climate change stuff in JUST 150 years. Where are the farkers with their charts in this thread?
Earth cools. Earth Warms. Earth moderates itself. etc. etc. all throughout millions of years.
//// Geldof looks horrible in blonde hair.
// he was the better choice v.s. Roger Waters to star in "Pink Floyd's The Wall", I'll give him that.

You're not very bright, are you?

Didn't they already prove global warming was a huge grant scam / hoax?  I mean, it's been a decade and a half of no real warming and the weather getting calmer.

Yep.  But that does nothing to discourage the faithful.  They ignore evidence, and science, and logic, and the frigging planet itself telling them they're full of it -- but they buy the phony data, because they have a phony survey that says 97% of scientists believe what the IPCC is saying.   However, when asked, in a peer-reviewed survey, scientists DID agree with what the IPCC said -- a whole 0.3% of them, that is.

Now, clearly, agreement is NOT science, but when your side alters the data, and makes up bullshiat surveys just to get numbers that look good, one should seriously question if one is on the correct side of the issue.  The truth does not need to make up new data, because the real data do not support their position.  Also, real science doesn't fake anything.  Real science is attempting to DISCOVER, rather than convince.

No point in me contributing to any of his shiatty charities then.

Was the warming magically over during the sharp decline in the 1940's? How about the flat spot in the 60's. No? There was another in the mid-80's as well ... yet the temperature kept climbing.

Why do deniers not understand statistics and trends? Why does their politics make them unable to understand energy balances?

The evidence clearly shows that the earth is still trapping more energy than we are releasing. The mechanism for greenhouse warming due to CO2 has been understood for over 100 years. We are still increasing the CO2 ... the mechanism for trapping energy is still in place. Nothing has changed.

Average surface temperature will reflect this energy increase over the long run but there are many factors that cause short term variability ... as we have seen over the last 130 years. Short flat spots never meant a end of warming in the past, why do you think it magically does now??
