I guess it's a great idea in principle, but if everyone is holding a garage sale, who's shopping at everyone else's garage sales?

What an Australian garage sale might look like:

Is it only garages? Can a bloke sell knickers from the boot of his lorry still or will his bum get tossed in the pokey?

/assuming Australians use the same slang Brits do

Meh.  Not news.  A lot of towns in the US actively encourage neighborhood-wide garage sales on a particular weekend, so as to keep traffic to just those few days a year.  They'll discount the permits - or even make them free, provide advertising and promotion, have the fire/police/EMT offering free child-seat inspection and installation, give away free smoke detectors.  All sorts of community involvement stuff like that.

As long as they're out looking for old junk can we send Schwarzenegger back to them?  His last three movies have been embarrassing and his governorship was hardly a great success.

For those who want to trade their junk for different junk.

It wasn't very large
There was just enough room to cram the drums
In the corner over by the didgeridoo.

Some government even try to collect sales taxes.

Government supported?  Probably means the website won't work

Bloke - used to be common but guy is usual now.

Lorry - no. Most Australians have no idea what a lorry is. They say truck.

Boot yes.

Bum - yes although arse and increasingly ass is more usual.

Australians have much better mental health than Americans. Better health in general. And they don't have to litigate to get medical bills paid.  And they are never bankrupted by medical bills.

Really? You're so helpless at the complicated scheme of selling your old sh*t the government has to step and muck about in your  garage sale?

Jesus, that's pathetic ..

Right amongst the lift, the lorry, the bond wizard, and all over the bloody malonga gilderchuck.

Certainly good sir. It's 1:54am, Monday, 7th October. It's currently 15 degrees Celsius which is 59 degrees Fahrenheit. It's a public holiday down here but I have a shiat load of work I have to have ready for Tuesday.

There's plenty of crazy people down here. And while there is socialized medicine here specialists like psychiatrists often charge well over the amount Medicare covers. So if you're poor you still might not be able to afford to see a shrink.

I'm crazy myself. My psychiatrist charges $220 for a 30 minute consultation of which about $112 is covered by Medicare. Right wing politicians are opposed to Medicare and have gradually been trying to neuter it by not raising the fees covered sufficiently.

That crossed my mind too.

In my area, they do rotating city-wide sales.
