elguerodiablo: Only 1 of the 7 CBS "experts" has an above .500 record against the spread for NFL games. I think for fun they should have a helmeted retarded kid flip a coin for every game and put up a better record than these dicks.

You realize that if you can get 53% against the spread you can quit your job and print money in Vegas, right?

ScouserDuck: So I was wondering..... Does the SEC consider Tenn to be an SEC school again?

It depends. If they are in the top 10,then they do. That way, they can claim they are playing a tought SEC schedule.

well there's 14 games and you would need to get 8 of them to win.  57%.  My point was that a coin would be correct ~50% of the time.  Experts are below that.

Bullshiat call by the refs.

Oh well, next time the Huskies special teams shouldn't spot the other guys 14 points, and it won't matter.

kilgorn: Screw job for NW, his entire body was over that line

I was at the game (just got back) and nobody in the crowd could believe that.  we were already celebrating that first down.  we made some mistakes that may have cost us the game today (INT and punt block), but the unnecessary roughness on the tackle as well as the bad spot on that last play took away the opportunity for NU to overcome those mistakes.  A first down inside the what, 35?  With 4 minutes to go?  Could have been a very different game the way NU's offense was doing in the red zone.

Oh well, I suppose OSU is a national championship contender whereas NU is not.  Can't let a top 3 team go down to the nerd school, and to be honest if we ran the board in the big ten we would end up going to some top tier bowl game where we would be outplayed by an SEC team whose players don't have to mind things like class, classwork, homework, reading, or math and can spend 80 hours a week split between the film room and the weight room.  Then, when they lose those guys to graduation, they can recruit 80 more the very next year because SAT scores?  What are those?

NU will probably be a solid team for a very long time, but we have to adjust our expectations to becoming a top third of the conference team with some nice wins on Jan 1st.  1995's rose bowl season will never happen again because 1995 was lightning in a bottle.  80 guys, the best of whom (2 time bronco nagurski award winner) played in special teams in the NFL for a season before he was cut.  Nobody on that team was a superstar like most national contenders had, but they worked seamlessly well, they were tenacious, they made no mistakes and had such confidence in themselves they never dropped a game in the fourth quarter.  Not sure if in today's college football world that would be enough to win 10 games.  Though today's NU players are much stronger and faster than I remember the guys from 1995, the mental toughness is still only 90% there.  They are still getting outscored in the third and fourth quarters, which is something the 1995 team or even the 1999-2000 teams never did.

I hope we can run the board and see OSU again in the championship, but I don't think we'll be able to get through wisconsin and michigan unscathed.  we have a good shot at either of those teams, but not both.

//rant over.  trying to make myself feels better, that game was quite a letdown, especially since the crowd was left wondering what if when that ball was spotted.

SomebodyElsesShoes: bionicjoe: PluckYew: bionicjoe: karmaceutical: bionicjoe: kilgorn: Screw job for NW, his entire body was over that line

His feet were on the damn 'unofficial' line.

That is why they call it "unofficial" dude.

That line has been in use for 15 years & I've never seen it be off.
I have no idea why the NFL or NCAA refuse to use it.

Because it's virtual.  The refs can't see it, it's only on the broadcasts.

Yeah, but why can't it be part of the review process?
Makes no sense.

I think that beg the question, though.  The line is often wrong.  It's gotten better over time, but it still is inexact.

I can see it being off by a few inches, but the ball was spotted a foot short of where the line was and his body falling forward was at least a foot beyond the line if his feet where on it.  From where I saw him fall forward to where the ball was spotted was easily 2 feet.  Easily.  We got screwed on that.  No guarantee that we still would have been able to score, but we were screwed out of the opportunity to find out.

/don't mind the loss on the hook and ladder.  it's a low percentage desperation play.  I think one of the passes was even a forward pass, so the play should have died at that point, but I know the game was close than 40-30, it was ultimately a 4 point game as far as I'm concerned.
//go cats.

also truth. PAC refs are the worst - tonight and that farkup against Wisky when they were playing ASU. A bunch of dudes deserve to be fired. Also those guys in the Texas/Iowa State game and the Ohio State/Northwestern game. STOP DECIDING GAMES ON BAD CALLS, REFS

You know how I know you don't understand statistics and sample size?

Let's say that on Friday I asked you to pick the winners of the following games:

Florida-Atlantic/UAB (UAB -7)
FIU/Southern Miss (SM -14.5)
UVa/Ball State (UVa -5)
NC State/Wake Forest (NCSU -9.5)

Not even the line. Just pick those straight-up.

What? You got all four wrong?? A COIN COULD GET 50%.

Somebody's pissy.

Truth be known, OSU is gonna get smacked by whatever teams they play in the NCG, they just aren't that good and play a really weak schedule.

What is the likelihood of OSU even playing in the NCG this year? As far as I can tell, as long as Alabama and Orgeon (or even Clemson or FSU for that matter) stay unbeaten through the whole regular season, Ohio State could easily get shut out of the championship game even if they maintain a perfect season. And then, it will be followed by the tears of impotent rage of 1 million OSU fans.

/and it will be glorious

The thread was pretty nice without a bunch of blowhard ohio state fans crying about the SEC.  Funny how most of you took the thread off when your team actually had to face some competition.
