So you can drive on the roads if you have a special sticker, but if you don't the police won't let you? Really?

They are going out of their way to make it inconvenient for people. I know the House passed a bill to keep the National Parks Service funded but the Senate refused to look at it.

It seems as if Senate and the Administration want to make it as painful as possible for the citizenry if they don't get their way. That is simply not fair. The government should do as much as possible to minimize the impact not maximize the impact. We don't need to take this shiat, they work for us.

Their way is not passing any funding bills, or as Sen. Reid said, why would I want to help one child with cancer? The NIH bill can be brought up and passed by the Senate and sent to the president, but the Senate refuses to look at it.

The Senate by being stubborn is endangering lives, even if it is only one child with cancer. I'm disgusted.

Did you catch being retarded over the past few month or something?

The House, namely Bohner and the teabaggers, are the ones hurting America. Refusing to cave into their obscene demands and pass these little tiny bills when the whole annual budget was already approved months ago would be insane. The Senate isn't hurting America, they're doing their job.

They also refused to pull out of Afghanistan when the Taliban asked them to do so in exchange for hostages. Funny how unreasonably demands aren't usually met.

You obviously don't know how politics works. Any budget cuts will be made to the most needed services, not the least. It's called extortion.

Which is exactly what the GOP wants.... "Chinese take out menu" government where they can just pick and choose the services THEY deem "appropriate" to fund, and not fund what doesn't fit in their "definition" of government.  Excuse me if I don't think we want to give into that "game".

Considering this is the party that did not win a majority of votes in ANY of the 3 levels of national government on a national votes measure in 2012 (Executive, senate, and house).. it is pretty much the definition of a hostage situation.

I guess that means that the Democrat side don't care about the VA, the National Park Service, National Institute of Health, and pay for reservists or national guard.  Those are the funding bill that Democrats rejected today. Democrats won't fund those things because they are things that only Republicans care about.

Good article by Zakaria

What cannot be allowed to stand is the notion that if a group of legislators cannot convince a majority in both houses and the president to agree with them, they will shut down the government or threaten to default until they can get their way. That is extortion, not democracy.

This country takes a dim view of sedition. These critters are headed for the woodshed.

the republicans being the party of no taxes doesn't work that way. you keep your money and give it to the insurance companies and the banks as deposits toward some ill defined safety net for your old age. need street repair? take up a collection among your neighbors. what the privatized fire dept won't put your fire out because you didn't pay your dues on time? too bad. and yes that actually happened.

So then these 'trapped' old farts can just claim a medical emergency to the heavily armed(why, sure...) park ranger blocking their travel out of the hell hole in the middle of no where.

Ranger: "whats your medical emergency?"
Old Fart: "I NEED DRUGS!!!".
Ranger: "Well nothing stopping you from leaving, as the only road out legally becomes the unrestricted main road for the winter season."
Old Fart: "Damnit!!! Why won't you let me leave!!!! I'm calling my Congress Critter and Foxnews!!!"

Flatulent_Flea: This is why line item veto would be unconstitutional.

This has nothing to do with the line item veto.  There is no constitutional requirement that congress pass a single all-inclusive omnibus appropriation. There is nothing wrong with piecemeal funding. In fact, in the normal budget process, funding the government is divided up into 12 different appropriation bills.

Today, Senate Democrats rejected funding for the VA, for National Guard & Reservists pay, for the National Park Service, and for National Institute of Health. That's the only reason those things are not getting funded.

The Democrats whole argument is basically "The Republicans are shutting down the whole government by funding the government except for the one part we demand..."

It's the Democrats who shut down the government, not the Republicans. It would be like if I offered you 98 out of a 100 dollars to feed yourself and you howled that I was intentionally starving you while refusing to take the 98.
