Honestly, just let the simpsons die in peace.  It's great that it's been a wide success, and yes future generations should have access to it, but it has long since run it's course as an original.  Let it die before it's the animated equivalent of keeping a comatose grandpa alive on a ventilator..

We're also forgetting foreign series. I'm pretty sure Detective Conan has more episodes than the Simpsons, and I believe Sazae-san holds the world record for longest-running animated series since it's been on the air since friggin' 1969.

/now I really just wish they'd dub the rest of Detective Conan
//it'll never happen unless I hit the lottery and pay for it single-handedly

Man a Fark thread where most of the people LIKE the Simpsons?

What parallel universe did I wake up in?

/still watch it...is it as good as the classics? Nope
//is it still better than about 95% of what's on? Yep. Hope they run it forever, last thing we need is another reality show or Family Guy Spinoff 4

Uzzah: "This groundbreaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history..."

[wormholeriders.net image 850x330]

"Excuse me?"

/Longest-running prime time show, maybe.
//by age, of course. "Gunsmoke" had 630 episodes in 20 years, compared to "The Simpsons" 500-something in 25 years.
///"Guidling Light" was around even longer than GH, although it's off the air now.

The longest weekly running episodic television show in history, with over 1000 episodes.

i was really hoping they'd pull the plug after 25 years.  25 is a nice round number, a quarter of a century.  because i don't know anyone who actually still likes the show.  all of the old-school simpsons fans who love the show and grew up with it stopped watching it ten years ago.  i know it still gets ratings, but the people who watch it would probably watch almost anything in that time slot.  watching the show now is just a sad reminder of how great it used to be.

That sounds unchristian. I'm going to have to ask the Florida government to make a decision here, based on WWJD.

Ullman shorts, Christmas show,
Marge's fling, Homer's bro,
Bart in well, Flanders fails,
Whacking snakes, Monorail.
Mr. Plow, Homer space,
Sideshow Bob steps on rakes,
Lisa's future, Selma's hubby,
Marge not proud, Homer chubby.
Homer worries Bart is gay,
Poochie, U2, NRA,
Hippies, Vegas and Japan,
Octuplets, and Bart's boy band.
Marge murmurs, Maude croaks,
Lisa's Buddhist, Homer tokes,
Maggie blows Burns away,
What else do I have to say!
They'll never stop The Simpsons,
Have no fears, we've got stories for years, like:
Marge becomes a robot,
Maybe Moe gets a cell phone,
Has Bart ever owned a bear?
Or how about a crazy wedding?
Where something happens, a-do-do-do-do-do.
Sorry for the clip show.
Have no fears, we've got story for years

LisaNeedsBraces: (Yes, I'm one of the "The Simpsons Was Greatest From Season 1-12" crowd, but I'm not telling those who like today's shows to not watch it. Just stating my own preference.)

the simpsons "was good from season x to x" crowd sounds like the "snl was only good when x was in the cast" crowd

All right another Treehouse of Horror.  That is my favorite episode every season. I wish they would release a DVD of just those episodes.

If only Phil Hartman didn't die. Lionel Hutz had to be one of the funniest fictional lawyers ever.

/Lionel Hutz, court-appointed attorney. I'll be defending you on the charge of... Murder One! Wow! Even if I lose, I'll be famous!

I made a Simpsons reference in class today.  Punk kids didn't recognise "That's not a knife, this is a knife." "Hey man, that's a spoon."

This is after last year's rugrats didn't realise Homer had climbed (most of) the Muderhorn.

Kids today with their Facepage and their Ciley Myrus...

Of course they're going to milk this cow dry. With the show not being watchable in the past 13 years, the Simpsons have become  your COD of tv.
