Do you think any of those assholes actually give a shiat about anyone other than their donors?

That's adorable.

2013-10-04 05:29:07 PM
I know they do. I signed it.

2013-10-04 05:30:42 PM
I'm sorry for your friend.

2013-10-04 05:30:46 PM
Not to sound cynical, but is a petition going to do anything to convince a group of assholes that shut down government in the first place because they didn't want to give people government funded healthcare?

2013-10-04 05:32:42 PM
While I doubt it will have any impact, I signed it.

2013-10-04 05:33:04 PM
The Free Market[tm] will give her the clinical trial she neeHAHAHAHAHA :(

No.  It's not.  But it will make all involved in the petition feel like they at least tried, rather than watching their friend die alone because of a fight over healthcare (the irony, it burns).  And that's good enough motivation even for cynical old me.

On a petition like this trying is costless, but the potential upside is huge.

You should email this to your Congressman.

/no really.

I wonder if the person who reads these petitions is on furlough.

2013-10-04 05:36:55 PM
Done.

My best to your friend.

2013-10-04 05:37:37 PM
I signed it. Best of luck. Make sure you ship it with that picture, that kid has some serious puppy dog eyes going on.

2013-10-04 05:38:02 PM
Sorry, the Office of White House Petition Readers is on furlough.

2013-10-04 05:38:42 PM
Is there any way you could get a major news source to cover this? Major negative public opinion for damaging the care of a cancer patient is probably more of a language that politicians understand than a petition with a few hundred signatures.

2013-10-04 05:39:10 PM
Done.

Luck to your friend.

2013-10-04 05:41:15 PM
I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully she's white and your local news picks up this story, but a petition won't change the situation in Congress.

2013-10-04 05:41:53 PM
Clinical trials do not assure life saving measures.

/sorry about your friend though
//just as angry about this BS as you are.

2013-10-04 05:43:20 PM
I'll sign the petition but the assholes in charge couldn't care less about your friend unless her last name is Walton or Koch.

2013-10-04 05:43:30 PM
Actually, she had an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN on Monday I believe. I've been following her cancer and babysat her daughter a couple times, they're SUCH good people. Will this get her treatment? Possibly not, but her whole family is pretty sick with grief.

Obviously subby.

2013-10-04 05:43:53 PM
Oh, and I signed it for you.

They're covering it.  I might contact any one of the following reporters who have already done NIH stories, to see if they want to put a face to the story:

There are lots more.  Just do a Google News search for NIH shutdown.

basemetal: Clinical trials do not assure life saving measures.

This is why this situation is so desperately sad.

But where there is life there is hope.  At least that little kid will grow up knowing her mom tried everything in her power to live.

That's terrible. :(

Hey Mods, can this go green?  It's like Warthog said; the cost is minimal but there is potential upside.  Plus, it's good to get the word out as to what the govt. is shutting down.  We think of parks and some of the other things in the news, but how many people thought about clinical trials (with medicine schedules) being postponed?

I actually submitted her cnn link a couple days ago, but if this went green I know it could make a huge difference.

I'll sign your petition for a better American healthcare system as long as you'll sign my petition to stop the extinction of the Canadian beavers.

No?

She is an autism occupational therapist, too. Such a good human being. And yes, having cute kids make sad eyes helps, but it pisses us off to no end that some congresswoman can biatch about needing her paycheck and others are mad about memorials, but they don't give a rats ass about the average American.

Really?  my fraternity brother just published his first book about his life with autism and is a huge advocate for caring for adults with autism.

I'm sorry, I hope everything goes well. I signed. I'm sorry I don't know what else to do for your friend.

2013-10-04 06:07:21 PM
My main problem with this is that every time I sign a change.org petition they send my even more e-mails trying to get me to sign petitions for mostly stuff I don't care about.

2013-10-04 06:07:59 PM
I shared this to Facebook. Hopefully it gets you more signatures.

I can take it down if you want.

Signed. Wish there was more I can do. Already expressed my displeasure my Congresscritters. Tester's admin is on furlough, so a lot of good that did.

Oh hun, I saw that photo in a story on cnn or slate today in a series of photos.

I'll make sure my friend sees that, he hates cancer. I'm off to find something funnier though. Toodles.

We have no illusions that there's a miracle cure. But for a 30 year old who was only given a couple of years to live... It would break anyone's heart.
