"It is not about proselytizing, but about bringing a values-based opportunity to this campus," said Troy's chancellor, Jack Hawkins Jr. "The parents are the most excited. I've had calls to get me to intervene to get their son or daughter in there."

Thanks mom and dad.

Do the TV's only show EWTN and Fox News?

How about proselytizing about not forgetting words, heathenmitter ...

Is it one dorm/section for each religion, or do they put the devout Muslim with the lapsed Catholic (whose parents intervened to get him "closer to god" by hanging out with more of His fanclub)?

My friend Sir* was a fairly devout Muslim when he got to college, and after a year of living with a hedonist/UU "man of the cloth"/lapsed something-or-another (but I think part of his family is Jewish, too?), was eating BLTs pretty much on the daily.

I did not live in a religious dorm, despite being religious when I got to college, but a year after I moved out - BAM!, agnostic.

*so named because of the famous riddle: "What do you call a 300-pound Iranian?"

// wait, you wanted a point to these CSBs?

And in the 2,300-square-foot Catholic-run ministry center, evenings are given over to clergy-led discussions on the meaning of God and a few good-natured rounds of "Stump the Priest."

In confessional box, priest stump you. If you are an altar boy

Huh. Protestant kids in Alabama wanting to live in a Catholic run dorm? Maybe the end is indeed nigh.

Colleges are dealing with an epidemic of pagans?

Riiiiiiiiiight

2013-10-04 12:07:13 PM
Good news mom! I met a girl I think I want to marry.
Oh that's wonderful honey, I am so glad we got you in that religious dorm so you could meet a nice girl. So what is she, Baptist, Lutheran?
No mom, Rastafarian

"Values-based".  The new euphemism for "pigf*cking ignorant".

protected [from] the immorality of interacting with heathens who might have different points of view, and who also know how to properly use contraceptives.

Yes, let's bunch up all the over-protected kids into one building, where they will all simultaneously be set "free" after move-in weekend is over and the moms and dads have to go home. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, the parental motivation is apparently the hope that by sequestering away their kids in the religious dorms, they won't be exposed to the debauchery on the rest of campus.

The trouble with that line of thinking is that they won't spend all of their time in that dorm, and will still be able to attend parties at the frat houses, off campus apartments, etc, and will mix with the more secular students in class and during recreational activities.

I gotta imagine that it will soon be the dorm doing the most business at Planned Parenthood because the residents will be too ashamed to go out and get condoms but still unable to keep their hands off each other like the horny little bastards all college kids are

My roommate in college, who has been my best friend for 10 years now, is a minister's daughter.  Her dad was also a chaplain in the Army.  I'm an atheist.  We didn't have any problems whatsoever.  The idea that Christian students have to be or should be sequestered away from the non-Christians so they don't come into contact with a different belief structure to theirs is absolute horseshiat.  If your faith is so fragile that living with a Jew or a pagan or a whatever will be problematic for you, so therefore you must live with and around other Christians, you're not a very good Christian.

I'll bet the pagan dorms are AWESOME!

If they're that committed to avoiding people dissimilar to them and living with other narrow-minded folks, couldn't they just join a frat?

2013-10-04 12:38:15 PM
If you're afraid for your kid coming into contact with a different belief structure, maybe you shouldn't send them to college.

yeah

Many colleges offer online classes. You don't have to go to an actual building to get a degree anymore

2013-10-04 12:59:06 PM
Whoa.  Whoa.  I think you people have misunderstood.  Parents send their children to college to AVOID education.

2013-10-04 01:08:21 PM
Oh, I see. It's a values-based opportunity.

Could also be the dorm where all the girls most likely to stick it in their poopers live.

So, you and your friends didn't waste your college years. Good.

Yeah we have that here in Montreal at the Mosque des Technologies Superieures.

2013-10-04 01:39:39 PM
I'm OK with anything that keeps them out of my face. Inmates locking themselves in there cells? Sounds like a win/win to me.

2013-10-04 01:39:57 PM
That's ok.  The dicks that are certain groups (cough frat boys) will make sure to harass these people because they've painted "Wannabe Martyr" on their backs.

Benevolent Misanthrope: "Values-based".  The new euphemism for "pigf*cking ignorant".

clarify, because having morals and wanting an environment where you arent labled pig****ing ignorant for being a decent human doesnt register as pig****ing ignorant to me

2013-10-04 01:40:13 PM
This is amongst the worst possible ideas, like ending the Congressional Happy Hour, and voodoo economics.

2013-10-04 01:40:21 PM
I'd prefer the dorms where they put the Catholic High School Girls in Trouble.

2013-10-04 01:40:30 PM
Because we all know that these religious children are the bastions of morality.

/Thank god for preacher's daughters

2013-10-04 01:41:47 PM
People shouldn't be allowed to live how they want.

2013-10-04 01:42:40 PM
Catholic girls start much too late.

2013-10-04 01:43:00 PM
I'd love for a few dozen devout Muslims to sign up for that dorm.

2013-10-04 01:43:18 PM
Yay separation of church and state!

2013-10-04 01:43:36 PM
So for new college students especially they know a guaranteed place where they will get laid? Sounds win/win

2013-10-04 01:43:41 PM
CSB time!
The names in this csb have been changed to protect the stupid; because, none of us are innocent.

My friend, Steven, is a very intelligent, very street savy person. He's also very religious. We're talking 6000 year old earth religious.

The other day; I explained that most, if not all, of Christian holidays are hold-overs from pegan festivals. He said, " give me an example". I told him that Xmas is pretty much Saturnalia with a different name; Halloween is really a pegan Druid thingy; and Easter is just a spring festival.

/ he said that he'd pray for my soul

2013-10-04 01:43:47 PM
By "point of view", do you mean "seeing a penis"?

2013-10-04 01:43:48 PM
Isn't going away to college supposed to mean leaving the nest to find your true self?  To even - gawd forbid - leave the wholesome hometown forever?

Since religion is still a pacifier to so many overgrown children, so many of the lost Millenial generation will stay stunted.

2013-10-04 01:43:50 PM
I should make clear that I am NOT ok with this.

Even at Michigan Tech, the Campus Crusade for Christ as well as several other Christian groups had far too cozy a relationship with the Administration.

They freaked out at one point that the Muslim Student Association had rented rooms in the MUB (Memorial Union Bldg, had a cafe and meeting rooms, the campus store, a bowling alley) for Ramadan evening prayers, even though they themselves also rented rooms for religious activities.

1nsanilicious: clarify, because having morals and wanting an environment where you arent labled pig****ing ignorant for being a decent human doesnt register as pig****ing ignorant to me

Why do you presume they have morals or are decent? Because they tell you they are? (over and over and over...)

2013-10-04 01:44:21 PM
Or maybe protect them from people like subby who do nothing but belittle people of faith, all the while preaching "tolerance"?

2013-10-04 01:44:27 PM
Meh. If it's just a dorm, they still have to associate with the other students. If people wanted to withdraw completely, they'd go to some bullshiat faux school like Liberty University (Freeing You From Thought Since 1971).

So whatever. If the Jesus freaks want their own dorm full of people you should never invite to a party, fine.

2013-10-04 01:44:28 PM
I guess some priests like their meat a little more mature.

Sounds like they were moral, decent human beings.

2013-10-04 01:45:54 PM
I thought it was an act of tolerance to offer accommodations for people with special religious needs, see: kosher/halal meals, separate prayer rooms, gender-separated spaces.

2013-10-04 01:46:26 PM

This text is now purple: Dr Dreidel: Is it one dorm/section for each religion, or do they put the devout Muslim with the lapsed Catholic (whose parents intervened to get him "closer to god" by hanging out with more of His fanclub)?

fark that. My God turned water into wine as a party favor.

My god invented wine. Top that.
