Ok Farkers, go:

"If you lost a loved one during the _____ or during _____ or if someone attacked your father in a hate crime because he _____, I doubt this costume (pic here) would make you comfortable," _____ told the Huffington Post.

Osama was an assclown.
Personally, I'm offended by assclowns with turbans, beards, invisible sky-wizards, and guns.

I'm shopping for the big lot of them when they hit E_Bay.
Maybe organize an ass-clown parade for mardigras.

If enough people are offended, the company won't make a profit and will stop selling them.

Capitalism!  problem solved.

I don't think this costume was pulled because of "cultural sensitivity." I think the much more likely reason is that some redneck is going to shoot a kid wearing one of these costumes and shout, "I got him! I got Osama bin Laden! I'm gonna be a hero!"

I came here to say the same thing.  It's the same reason why they don't sell deer and turkey costumes.

So I went GIS'ing for the Zombie Osama bin Laden gun-range target. Yes, there's a company that makes one; it had actually been their number-one seller for years before he even died.

As I was looking for one of a suitable size, I found a Joffrey Baratheon target.

I'm not sure whether to laugh or to cry.

That's funny, I'm going to go as Osama for Halloween this year.  Here's the prototype for my costume

It's a Halloween costume.

It's supposed to be scary and in bad taste. That's why people traditionally dress up as devils, ghosts, witches, your Mother, and so forth.

A lot of politically correct types, both Left and Right wing, can find reasons why an OBL costume is tasteless, insensitive, and so forth. But that's pretty much the point of a Halloween costume--to be shocking, a violation of normalcy.

That's why people wear Presidential masks--Bush, Obama, Clinton, Reagan. They generally don't dress up as their favourite Saint or Humanitarian.

Like the traditional festivals associated with Mardi Gras, the Day of Misrule, Saturnalia, Christmas mummery, and so forth, the mummery is supposed to violate day-to-day norms.

The Old British Quarter Days were days when debts and rents were paid and accounts settled. Traditionally, the very poor were allowed to beg for food, drink, money, etc., and many people did this in disguise (as they might be ashamed of having to beg).

Halloween had deep roots in Pagan as well as Christian traditions of licence on certain feast days of the year. But all in all it was a very pious form of impiety and a social occasion of some importance.

Let OBL be OBL one day of the year, dammit. That's what its for.

Damned Puritans, always making war on the religious holidays of us atheists, Roman Catholics, mainstream Protestants, Pagans, Heathens, and so forth. They just spoil the holy days for everybody.

A Halloween costume is not an endorsement. The crime against taste, etc., if any, is in the intent, not the choice of costume. Dressing as OBL to endorse his crackpot reactionary religious and political aims is one thing. Dressing up because it's "scary" to see a little kid dressed as the Old Man of the Mountain is just fun. And it's not like you're doing it in Mecca or Medina. This is customary largely in the USA and Canada. Even the English only re-adopted their old customs recently. They largely died out in the Old Country or were slightly different in meaning and performance, such as making Jack o' Lanterns out of turnips instead of pumpkins because pumpkins are a New World fruit, not an Old World root.

Halloween is my favourite holiday. It has no real obligations. Christmas is a pain in the neck, Easter is just weird, Valentine's Day is a cruel joke and Thanksgiving, while it can be nice, is only as nice as your family are when they get together and get drunk or worked up over things that don't really matter, like the last 100 years of family history or football games.

You are free to participate in Halloween as much or as little as you please, and that makes it the best holiday, the only one that can give you a break, cut you some slack. You don't get that kind of leisure from Mother's Day or even your Birthday. Birthdays slack for no man.

They should just put the OBL costume on the same isle as the Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer costumes.

What else are the muslim kids gonna wear for halloween?

Who will the righteous stab with scissors if there's no Osama's running around?

Some bullet holes and blood, you have a dead Osama costume.

What he said. If you're offended by a Halloween costume, then fark you.

Vector R: Meatybrain: Just call it a Mohammed costume. Problem solved, right?

You. I like you.
