Out of all 10 She-Hulk is the only good answer.

Sliver Sable and Black Widow would just feel like a "Salt" knock off and we all remember how well that movie did.

Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman may work but you'd have to lay a bunch of ground work in the next Avengers movie and we already know Scarlet Witch is going to be introduced. I don't think she could carry her own movie. Not without bring daddy Magneto into it.

Any of those would mark the saturation point in superhero movies where the tide finally rolled back.

How about a SW/Quicksilver twincest flick?

4. The Black Widow

Didn't they nerf her powers pretty hard for the movies?

Cost $110 million to make and grossed almost $300 million worldwide. I'd call that doing pretty well.

Nope, it's the grown up version of the first kid that Peter and Mary Jane had that they thought was a stillborn but was probably stolen away by The Green Goblin. And by first, I mean it was speculated that Mary Jane was pregnant during that whole One More Day debacle.

Spider-Girl is also set in an alternate future where that whole kidnapping business didn't happen or did happen but they got her back or something. Never followed Spider-Girl

You laugh but it's not like they didn't try it. Electra, Catwoman (Halle Berry), Wonder Woman on TV. Nothing. The audience loves superhero chicks as supporting players but not as leads for whatever reason. That's why Black Widow's the only Avenger without her own solo film (besides the bow and arrow guy but he's just lame),

I wouldn't call Hawkeye lame. He's just better as a team member. That's the same issue with pretty much all of Marvel's ladies. If any heroine should get a movie I want to see a X-23 movie

If you call those two movies trying. They didn't do well because they were shiatty movies, not because people don't want a female superhero movie.

So the Great Lakes Avengers are still on for a big screen show, right?
I would be the first in line.  For real.
It was intended to just be goofy, but then they went and assigned real writers to it.  So it actually came out as a good series.

2013-10-04 12:45:23 AM
Not sure why they dismissed some of the X-men out of hand.  Storm has a great backstory, I'd pay money for a movie featuring her*.  I'd also consider a Kitty Pride movie.

*Just not played by Halle Berry.  Someone taller, like Angela Bassett.

A Black Widow/Hawkeye movie would be better. No one character fills the screen 100% of the time, Avengers already hints at their having a background working together, and the actors seemed like they had decent chemistry. To me, it's a no-brainer. Marvel covers two origin movies at once, so they reduce their risk of having two flops, and if it works, they can do sequels for each individual character.

Imperious Rex!: They didn't do well because they were shiatty movies, not because people don't want a female superhero movie.

I've been thinking about this... the only successful movie featuring a female lead "superhero" is probably the Resident Evil series, that I can recall at least. Sure, you can *not* like the series, as many would agree with, but they raked in a decent amount of money for the studios to keep making them (nearly $1B revenue, while only spending about $250M.) Not too shabby, really. I think a good kickstart to having movies on a bit more of the serious side would be a continuation of the Bourne series featuring a female lead. (the recent Bourne movie hinted at male and female members of the project). Not as "campy" as a superhero movie would be, and could help break the mold of having the "little old damsel in distress" stereotype given to many females in lead films.

I happen to agree. I personally enjoy the franchise, and it really is the best example of female led movies. All the major characters are empowered women, and it has done well for itself.

While I would enjoy a female led Bourne, I think a Black Widow or Elektra film could essentially fill that role for the MCU. Neither character in their own are flashy heroes, and it may be easier to bring in an audience for those characters. I think one of the failings of Elektra's movie was that outside of being subpar, they really pushed it as a superhero movie in the marketing when it wasn't really.

The next Cap movie is supposedly really a Cap/Widow movie. Also Hawkeye is, when written well, one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Universe. Avengers didn't really give him a chance to be hyper-sarcastic like he's supposed to be.

The female Captain Marvel TFA suggests isn't even the female Captain Marvel I'd prefer.

While in general, I do agree Marvel is more mature than DC usually and I prefer to read Marvel's stuff more often when I do read comics, this article made me laugh a bit. I can't take this seriously.

"Marvel has arguably the better overall assortment of strong, well written and well rounded female heroes."

Female heroes are the weak point in Marvel's armor. Marvel treats women pretty awfully compared to DC in terms of strong, independent archetypes. Most of the characters named are written like utter morons (See Missus Fantastic) or have to regularly be rescued by men constantly in their own books.

Whereas DC actually has rather competent female heroes like Wonder Woman, Oracle, Batgirl/woman (whatever), the female Spirit, etc etc.

1. Carol always should have been Captain Marvel after the original died.

2. Monica is still active, as Spectrum.  She's a member of Luke Cage's Mighty Avengers.

3. Carol is AWESOME as Captain Marvel. Her power-set actually makes sense considering the name. I never understood why Monica took the name in the first place. She wasn't friends with the original like Carol, nor were her powers anything to do with him. Carol is linked to him. She's the natural choice for Captain Marvel.

Also, Tomb Raider, for all of its faults, made a lot of money (the sequel, not as much).

Mayday Parker was awesome, she was better than regular Peter for a long period of time, and so far, she's been better than Miles Morales (Ultimate Spider-Man).

2013-10-04 02:09:48 AM
A successful Captain Marvel would be great. Solidify the character, both in movie and comic, and it would open up the possibility of a Wonder Woman movie and other female super heroes.

I'm all for it.

I have some vague memories of a Spider Woman cartoon series on Saturday mornings, at least 30 years ago.
