There are so many cars I'd rather have than a '63 Ferrari. A sampling:

- Aston-Martin DB5
- Triumph Spitfire (1975)
- 1969 Porsche 911
- 2006-12 Mercedes-Benz coupe'
- 1967 (I think) Jaguar E-Type
- Bullitt Mustang
- Caterham 7

Yawn, rich people who get their kicks buying the most expensive *item* will continue to buy *item* for more than the last guy so they can be the one who bought the most expensive *item* in history.  In this way they can show everyone how affluent they are.

Instead of writing an article about how much was paid, the author should have wrote an article about the biatchin car.

In otherwords, something you would not be afraid to drive on the street?  Totally agree with you.  No matter how cool a car it is, if you can't ever drive it, then it's not really a car, but an artwork.  Nothing wrong with that, but it's not the same thing, IMHO.  Of course, if you can afford ONE $52Million car, you can probably afford a second one for parts, right?

Snerk.

My very undouchelike neighbor owns one and let me drive it once. It would be a pretty lousy car to drive in traffic, but it sure sounded sexy. I've always thought these were the best looking sports cars ever made.

Missed it by that much - just sold a 25th anniversary 911S.  For a pittance.  No rust, no dents never wrecked.

I wish that I could fit in the car.

I drove a 999 Porsche on a short track...amazingly tight steering, paddle shifting, the gd thing was hugging the road at 100 mph...just a religious experience.

Whomever bought the Fangio W196 for $29.6 million got the best deal.  That's a real race car with Fangio history, rebuilt by the factory and certified.  That one has to be worth $100,000,000 today.  So that's a pretty good return on your money since July, 2013.

I have a 85.5 944 non-turbo for sale. Engine runs clean and fast, new brakes, timing belt and water pump is 2 years old. $10K redoing the exterior, removing dings and repainting overall. Interior still looks like shiat, except the dash is pristine. I just found out the power steering pump leaks so I'm fixing that.  You can come pick it up and drive it away after I fix the power steering. $6000.

52 million used to be the population of Ukraine ca. 1999-2000. Now, it's about 48 million, IIRC.
Such a staggering sum to spend on a single car.
