He only stole $840k, and his good buddy ripped the city off for $73 million? And the feds want to hit him up for 28 years? His buddy, by those standards, should get 2433 years in prison (with time off for good behavior).

Oh great, now the conservative base will use this as their only example on why Detroit went bankrupt due to Democrat policies while ignoring the fact that Detroit had a 50 year decline in manufacturing jobs and failed tax incentives for businesses that had no return.

Detroit is one of the largest cities in the country?  Maybe back in the 70's.  By population it's not even in the top 10 or 15 cities.

By population, Detroit is #18.  That qualifies as "one of the largest" in my book.  Atlanta, by comparison, is #40, and nobody ever calls Atlanta not a large city.

Typical Democrat's, It's not our fault! It was the fault of capitalism, it was the fault of businesses that had no return...bullshiat. You democrat assholes raped and looted Detroit for DECADES!! and now it's a shiathole. Grow the fark up and take some responsibility for a change, the democrat chickens have come home to roost.

I also thought Atlanta is much larger.  The metro area pop is large but the city itself is really small.

FTA: "...at least $18 billion of long-term debt..."

Detroit had, as of 2010, a population of 713,777 (269,445 households, and 162,924 families). That's $25,217.96 per person, $66,803.99 per household, or $110,480.96 per family. If you live in Detroit, you're an idiot. Add to that the $785 per person state debt and ~$47,000 per person in federal debt, and each Detroiter owes $73,002.96. With an average wage of $48,870, that's 1.5 years of work. But, it's the greedy bankers who are destroying the economy. Right.
