If you're going to be correcting people, you should at least be correct yourself.

It's 5 pm EDT (which would actually be 4 pm EST).

We don't switch back to EST until November.

Uecker was a Cards player for part of his career. He actually was on the 1964 World Series Champion club, where he made his greatest contribution...by being left off the WS roster, so Tim McCarver went Iron Man and won WS MVP.

Wainwright v. Burnett? Man I'm glad Liriano was used up on the play-in game. Also, subby, "red-hot Pirates?" Cards kicked the crap out of everybody for the end of their season, winning their last six and 8 of their last 9. Yeah, it was Brewers, Nats, and Cubs, but still. Pirates went 7 of 9, btw.

BTW, bottom 2nd, no score.

No... I'm rooting for my Cards but getting the bullpen working this early in game 1 of the series spells doom for later games.

If Burnett can get out of this inning without too much more damage it will be better for the pirates.

/ Pull him if he gives up 2-3 more runs.  This game is probably over anyway

AJ on Yankees in regular season: very inconsistent, frequently awful.

AJ on Pirates in regular season: a tad inconsistent, but generally quite good

Several years ago the Braves had a bunch of cash to burn and were looking at signing a big name free agent pitcher. The choices were Derek Lowe and AJ Burnett.

At the time, I think the Braves weren't too upset that AJ's wife didn't want to move that far south.

Then again, Lowe went speeding through Atlanta drunk when he wasn't pitching tons of worthless innings.

WOW.  Reminds me of Rick Ankiel.

2013-10-03 06:17:29 PM
Holy balls..

Ok, you have to pull him

I'm rooting for my Cards but Clint's gotta pull AJ..

Unless Clint has already written this game off.

Considered the possibility. Playing against the opponents ace and just finished a one and done game. Might just let this one go if it goes south to fast. Keep the bullpen rested and play for taking game two away.

That makes no sense. A 4 minute pre-game? This is the post-season. If I've learned anything from the NFL it's that the pregame show for a post-season game must be at least twice as long as the game that follows it, with at least 26 former players, former coaches and analysts weighing in. And triple those numbers for the Superbowl Big Game TM.

Same here. Grew up in Illinois but lived in Florida for over 20 years.

Cards have been streaky but solid. The played really strong to finish the season. If Lance Lynn pitches well, they may be hard to beat.
Not sure about the Rays save they finished the year much the same as the Pirates. Strong finish and won their wild card game.

Never, ever had that happen before.

Also the Card's bullpen has been its weak point. If the bullpen doesn't fark up. I like their chances.

Essentially a picture perfect outing by the Cardinals all around.

Pittsburgh...well, welcome to the big stage boys.  Three errors...yeesh.  I expect they'll rebound, but I'm not sure they can win this series against the Cardinals with the way both teams have been playing the last month.  I think it's Cards in 4, with Liriano owning the Cardinals in Game 3 like he has all season.

Honestly as good as any other matchup, really. Baseball playoffs are a funny thing that way. My personal prediction is As-Dodgers.

I would love for that to happen. As an A's fan living in SoCal, I need some 1988 redemption.

So that's that.  On the plus side, the final doesn't look like a football score.  On the minus side, that's because the NFL rulebook doesn't allow teams to score only a single point.  Hopefully the Bucs have better luck tomorrow.

I am convinced that the reason they have not won more World Series rings is because that Chop Chant actually lulls them to sleep.Kind of like that study they did years ago regarding the police cars in England. They said the sound of the siren drone would put the Bobbys into a state of unalertness when they arrived at the crime scene.Hence getting shot.

I have watched nearly every Braves game this season. He's a defensive liability in the OF. He cannot even catch the easy ones. I guess he could be a pinch runner, but I don't ever remember seeing him hustle or run hard.

My proposal, which I've been touting here for a few years now:  Take one announcer from each teams regular broadcast.  I don't care how you decide, fan vote, announcer vote, whatever.  No announcers know the teams playing better than the guys who have announced 150 of the 162 games the respective teams have played.  Not to mention the regular announcers have done countless interviews, pre-game shows, post game shows, and so on.  If you *must* have a third announcer, get one from a neutral team.  Maybe even from the other league(doesn't work in the WS, of course, but even then you could do a fan vote).

Hell, even let the guys from the MLB fan cave decide, as long as they're limited to the local broadcast announcers.  I can't be alone in this.

Over the entire second half, and before really, I was saying the Reds were the worst best team. I think the Pirates got a false sense of hope by playing the Reds so many times the last couple of weeks of the season.

I'd hate to see how bad the Cardinals would have beaten the Reds. Probably would have been a no hitter.

The thing is, w/ the Dodgers it's going to be Vin Scully 110% of the time. I muted my TV and turned up my radio (for the first 3 innings).

What they need to do is what Fox Soccer had years ago, something called Sky Sports Fan Zone. They get two fans off the street, and let them call a game. It was pretty awesome.

Trocadero: The thing is, w/ the Dodgers it's going to be Vin Scully 110% of the time. I muted my TV and turned up my radio (for the first 3 innings).

I watched the game online with the sound off & the radio on. Just thought you should know that Scully also called the last 3 innings (which was a pleasant surprise).

SirEattonHogg: Looks like the Dodgers did just fine without Kemp.

Yes, but I would have loved to have him around to DH if they make the series.

God, I really love to watch Puig play.

/Sound wasn't working so I missed the chop and am glad I did.
// Bonus, I was also able to stay awake as I couldn't hear Vince Scully.

Trocadero: What they need to do is what Fox Soccer had years ago, something called Sky Sports Fan Zone. They get two fans off the street, and let them call a game. It was pretty awesome.

I'd be cool with that too.  Especially if they kept bringing them beers.

This is the norm for playoff games on the radio; Vin will take the first and last 3 innings, with Charlie Steiner and Rick Monday taking the middle 3.
