The original show was miles better than the remake.  For one, the original Ironside actually delegated work and also made brilliant deductions which he shared with the police.  He also wasn't all PTSD messed up still, at least all the time.  Christ, the remake played it up like this guy can't spend two minutes waiting for a Hot Pocket to microwave without having at least one flashback.

Really though, the problem with the remake is that they're trying to let the premise carry the show without putting in any effort on the plots, characters, or setting.  Underwood's Ironside has all the interpersonal skills of Dr. House with none of the charm, wit, or intelligence.  The most interesting character on the show is the investment banker turned cop who steadfastly refuses to explain how that happened or why.  It's just a disaster all around and I'm looking forward to watching it fail spectacularly.

1967-1975... so, being born in 1976, obviously understandable.   It was never rerun much, and doesn't have the notoriety of other old shows.

And obviously Burr was much more well known for Perry Mason.

Most of the L&O shows.. other than some minor tiff's, I don't know that that didn't apply to most of the characters... plenty of even current TV shows where the cops are pretty sane, and the "story" is about the bad guys, not about the cops problems.

When I saw the trailer a few weeks ago, I was all, "Oh no...they're updating Ironsides."  When the title showed at the end, facepalm.  Whoever greenlit that show should be put in a wheelchair, if only for not giving the part to Patrick Warburton.

They tried remaking that a few years ago with Ed O'Neill in the Jack Webb role.  It failed miserably.

Blair Underwood is a terrific actor, did a great job in "The Event" (another low-rated NBC drama that was cancelled).  But this show just looks terrible, and subby's headline captures the reason pretty well.

So done with cop shows and crime procedural shows.  Last one I watched was "Southland," and I'd rather leave it on a high note because that show was brilliant.

God, this.  The entire point of the original Ironsides was to rather starkly show that you don't have to be physically capable to be a good detective, that what caught the bad guy was intelligence and deductive reasoning as much as it was "okay now go wrestle with him for five minutes."  It was a rather extreme way of showing it, and plenty of other police procedurals have done a better and more nuanced job of it since, but it still stuck to that premise.  This new show tried to make it seem like the only things holding Ironsides back from being A-Number-1-Supercop were his constant PTSD flashbacks and an inability to climb stairs.

The thing you wonder is... how did these things even move forward... I mean, there are just some shows that you can smell from 8 miles away "This show is going nowhere", this "Lucky 7" show being one of them.  Is it that the shows just get so far down the road that they have too much invested that they "have" to put a few episodes on and see if they "stick"?

See, that's why they thought they could get away with it.  They were counting on the false premise that within certain age groups, the audience would be willfully ignorant of what anyone older than them watched,  because "Eww, old people shows!" and would flock to something that screams "Lazy Re-hash" thinking it's a innovation.  It makes "Re-Imagining" and "Reboot" the hip buzzwords flitting around lately, and like any trend that sweeps the industry, they try to reduce what actually succeeds into some super-simple Magic Formula that even hacks can use, not realizing how much hard work and heart went into it.  At least, let's see some original beating premises into the ground, like taking a cue from L&O, CSI, and NCIS, do something like Community: Houston, or Two Broke Girls: Mayberry.
