Weaver95: Cruz isn't completely stupid...he has to know that his party will sell him out in an instant to save themselves from a howling mob of pissed off voters.

He ought to have a long talk with the Newt, who at one time railed about the cannibalistic GOP.

Smelly McUgly: Tea Partiers aren't only bad at understanding economics or public perception outside of their tiny little gerrymandered districts: They also have no concept of political gamesmanship, apparently.

When your only experience in government leadership is watching Boss Hogg on Dukes of Hazzard reruns, you wind up with a government being run by Cletus Hoggs.

Ted Cruz isn't stupid.

He's evil.

Oh, also he's stupid.

I live in Texas, I did not vote for Ted Cruz though. What an idiot. Hopefully Texas will be so ashamed of his antics that they'll vote him out at the end of his term, though that's probably unlikely, what with American's short attention spans.

Car_Ramrod: Christ, no one likes Ted Cruz. How the hell did he get elected, let alone become a figurehead?

"We have to elect him so we can find out what's in him"?

Eh. More like "He'll stick it to the libs, and he's a smart lawyer like Obama (without that one half a drawback). We can elect a freshman Senator to the presidency, too!"

// I've read about Jack Kennedy, sir - and you are not fit to delicately and respectfully clean up pieces of his close from a Dealey Plaza
// you're no Jack Kennedy, sir - not RFK, not JFKJR, not TFK, not Caroline, or Maria Shriver, or Arnold's love-child
// you're a shiathead starfarker with more ambition than common sense, and your mom should have worn you on her forehead rather than house you (rent-free, you freeloading douchestand) in her uterus

I imagine the Cruz sees himself like one of the ultramarines facing down tyranids.

Car_Ramrod: At least W is, from all accounts, a nice enough dude to just hang out with. Every article I've read about Ted describes him as one of the biggest assholes to ever walk the Earth.

They're just jelly because Ted will only hang out with graduates of Harvard, Yale, or Princeton.

Probably more like rural straight ticket voters after Teatards primaried him.

Aw. Poor republicans. Teddy Cruz turned out to be just as big of an imbecilic blowhard as everyone else has been saying and you were the last to realize it? Poor babies.

You idiots hitched yourselves to this train as it was actively coming off the tracks. Enjoy the ride, assholes.

Yeah I find myself strangely unsympathetic.  We all saw this coming, and tried to warn them, but they wanted to ride the derp train anyway.  Fark 'em.

Nah.

We need the Republicans in the House, not the Senate, to collapse to solve the issue here and move forward.  There's no sign that's happening, AFAIK.

parasol: I can hear it now, from the Tea Party

"this is a sign he is kicking the RINO's butts! We will all be better off when all this spending stops for good! We will take the house AND the senate next!  Cruz/Palin 2016 - book it, done!"

pardon me - i have to go bathe in lye now

The more over-the-top things Pubs might say the more believable they are. So glad I stopped believing in that party.

PawisBetlog: I was there for work during those primaries and the commentary and commercials were unbelievable. One guy on the radio said basically "Dewhurst isn't electable because in 2009 worked with Democrats on a bipartisan bill"

This is 100% accurate, if anyone who doesn't live in Texas has any doubt.

"He's backed bipartisan measures in the past, and he's been willing to work with Democrats." That was an attack ad.

deeyablo: Weaver95: Cruz isn't completely stupid...he has to know that his party will sell him out in an instant to save themselves from a howling mob of pissed off voters.

My current theory is that he was played.  He was promised things, and then the rug was yanked out from under him.  He's fresh enough behind the ears to be politically naive in this environment, and he listened to the pundits a little too much.  He's part of a group that is anxious to unseat incumbents within his own party, and do you think they were going to stand for it?  They are preparing to play a game wherein they let the Tea Party render themselves marginalized.

What rug though? What have the Old Guard GOP done through this whole thing besides be a bunch of wishy-washy cowards?

If this was all about cleaning out the Tea Heads, the time to lay the smack down was a couple weeks ago, or right about when Teddy was reading Green Eggs and Ham. Not after the shutdown and risk the whole party taking heat for it.

I refuse to believe this tool has any chance whatsoever to be the nominee. If the GOP threw this guy at Hillary, she would crush him so bad, all his molecules would be spread by the solar wind into deep space.

2013-10-03 04:29:09 PM
You can't pull a move like this unless you have people 100% lined up. Going into this the GOP were already saying this was dumb where the Democrats were unified (for once in history).

Now more cracks are showing. The Republicans who were told to do this are already getting cold feet and trying to find a way out by finding anything to save face. The Democrats should just wait, not give the Republicans their first way to retreat and make them pay the price so they don't do this shiat again.

In the past Democrats gave Republicans the easy way out after the GOP painted themselves in a corner, they have to stop doing that and make them pay a price so they will actually stop doing it.

For example not just give them the tax on medical equipment, they should ask for the small hand full of change to Obamacare that they also want. Which would also make Republicans on record for voting for something for Obamacare too.

Car_Ramrod: Christ, no one likes Ted Cruz. How the hell did he get elected, let alone become a figurehead?

His inexplicable rise is directly correspondent to the incoherence of his party. The GOP is a meaningless jumble of contradicting interests and their one uniting pathology, total hatred of Obama, hurts them as much as helps them. They are permanently factionalized and perpetually vulnerable to being hijacked by the next demagogue-of-the-month.
