That these people don't remember what happened to Frank Drebin is a big indicator as to how dumb they are.

Ambivalence: "I think we're going to win this." I don't know how they can still think this.

The GOP leadership still thought Romney was going to win even as the polls started to come in. Never underestimate the power of denial.

I don't know who the republicans are poll testing with, because shiat looks pretty bad for them.

You have to unskew the shutdown to see it.

By "win this" I suspect they mean with the Idiot Brigade giving them more cash that they can ill afford to part with. This whole mess has been about a cash grab since McCain lost. It has been about piling up cash, and as much influence as possible with the gullible and inattentive, and yes, it IS working.

The problem is that it's shrinking The Big Tent to pup size, and it relies on drawing up districts to keep control, to the point if ridiculousness. It is a strategy predicated on only looking at the small picture, and going against Conservative pillars of prudence and long term strategy. It is all small unit tactics, while losing any thought to what's next.

It is exactly why I left the party: pants on head retardedness and an abandonment of anything looking like sense...

Certain parts of the party have built a chamber so echo-y that they truly, honestly believe that they are currently winning both the negotiations and the hearts and minds of the American people.

That's why I think we're seriously at risk, for the first time, of actually no-shiat defaulting.

2013-10-03 01:37:04 PM
The American people expect the two side to work together to find a solution.  You don't need to take a poll to know that.  They can see which side is trying to work for a solution and which side is not.

Based on WTOP's reported polling, 44% blame the GOP, 17% blame bof sidez, and almost 30% blame the Dems/Obama. ONLY 44%?!?!?

// that's how I remember it
// looking at it, it don't add up to 100%, even though I clearly remember 44 and 17 as the former two percentages
// but I also remember the Dems' coming in the mid-20s, not the high 30s...maybe some chose more than one?

I dont understand what these two GOP Senators have to do with anything. Its the House that is the problem. The Senate is majority Democratic, these teo are in the minority so what they think doesnt matter as much.

The house CAN pass a clean CR with bipartisan votes. The votes are there. They wont even bring it up though.

Dr Dreidel: almost 30% blame the Dems/Obama. ONLY 44%?!?!?

At least 30% of the country are straight-line Republican voters who will never blame their party for anything. There is a percentage on the Dem side that will be the same way. But a double digit difference between the two is significant. And we're only three days into this.

That's why the President it taking dead aim at Boehner now. He's pointing out that one man - John Boehner - could stop all of this in the next five minutes if he would just bring a clean funding vote to the floor. There are now at least 20 sane GOP House members ready to vote for it, which is more than we need.

2013-10-03 02:08:59 PM
Yeah, that'll be showing up in some ads next year when he's up for reelection.  Assuming he beats the Tea Bagger that's primarying him.

Then why is Boehner taking his marching orders from Rafael Cruz?

Hence the 17% approval rating for the GOP's handling of the shutdown, vs Obama's current 43% approval rating. Thanks for being the voice of reason.

i agree a solution is necessary however I'm also willing to suggest that the problem was not created by both parties.

Also, the Republicans want to win something? how about putting your party's ridiculous  demands aside and do something for the country? please? for once since President Obama was elected?

"Obama kept my mike on and made me say those words! Now do you see why we have to get rid of Obamacare?"

The derp sadly writes itself. That's why there will never EVER be a "Come to Jesus" moment of clarity with the Tea Partiers.

We're in Day 3 of a shutdown that occurred in Year 5 of an Administration that they hate more than a marathon of Low Winter Sun. And for many, they came from a society still smarting from a military and political defeat from 150 years ago. The hate is just too well-seated.

Because to think otherwise would be to admit they were wrong, and sociopaths can't do that.

Wait until they blame the liberal media for secretly broadcasting a private conversation taken out of context in order to make them look bad.

Yup. Democrats know this, moderate Republicans know this.

The Tea Party is intractable and needs to be told "You will not hold the government hostage in order to win your ideological war on the government", and it should have been done with the last debt ceiling argument instead of the sequester.

"I just did CNN and I just go over and over again 'We're willing to compromise, we're willing to negotiate.' I think -- I don't think they poll tested 'we won't negotiate.' I think it's awful for them to say that over and over again," Paul said of the Obama administration's stance on the shutdown.

"Yeah, I do too, and I just came back from that two hour meeting with them, and that was basically the same view privately as it was publicly," McConnell said.

I think it's hilarious that McConnell and Paul are bewildered by Democrats holding honest political positions not beholden to poll testing.

Trying to distance themselves from the crazies by painting this as a successful negotiation tactic on their part rather that a rabid tantrum about the ACA?

NEITHER group wants to compromise.  NEITHER.

But only one side gets the blame for it.

At least Clinton was willing to talk & compromise.

They're all a bunch of spoiled children.

2013-10-03 02:27:45 PM
My favorite part of that exchange is "I don't think they poll tested 'we won't negotiate.' I think it's awful for them to say that over and over again." Because where are their heads at, that they're worried about poll testing phrases in this middle of this crisis of government?  And it also seems to indicate that they think "We won't negotiate" is just a Democratic catchphrase instead of a firm position that Republicans must acknowledge so they can decide whether they want to perpetuate the situation.
