Stutzman looks like a douchebag who needs to get to the hair club for men in 26 minutes.

"We're not going to be disrespected," conservative Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., added. "We have to get something out of this. And I don't know what that even is."

Wow.  A congressman speaking the truth.

The GOP has to get something out of this to save face.

Obama can't afford to give them a single thing, as it would guarantee the bad GOP behavior continues.

We are so farked.

Politicians only respond to one thing: money.

1) Make a list of the nutjobs that are holding this whole thing up
2) Everybody donate 25 cents or a dollar or whatever you can afford, each day, to an opponent of theirs. If they currently have no opponents, then donate the money to the DNC.
3) Send them an email letting them know that you donated, and will continue to donate, as long as they continue to be jackasses.

Maybe not - maybe what they get out of it is an end to the shutdown? and no riots.
That really should be enough at this point.

Soon it will be time for some 14th Amendment solutions.

Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

Sounds like this whole shiatshow is an unconstitutional power grab by the Republican controlled House of Representatives.

Because I was bored, I looked up the 80 Representatives that signed Mark Meadows' letter to Boehner asking not to let any spending bill out of the House without it defunding Obamacare and checked how they did in their home district.

The mean margin of victory was 32 points. The median was 28.

So yeah, a lot of those guys are untouchable no matter what. But on the bright side, some are not, here are all the signatories with a margine of victory of 10% or less:

Do you know what's nice?  Seeing Reid and Obama have a backbone and defend the position of the people that voted for them.  For once, after six farking years of capitulation after capitulation after capitulation. Seeing Reid practically apologize for ever standing up to the Republicans in the first place.

For once, he's taking as hard-line a stand for the majority that voted for him as the teabaggers do for their positions.  It's about farking time.

That being said, I expect Reid to cave any minute and issue an official apology accepting complete blame for the shutdown and delaying the ACA provision not only for one year but "let's go ahead and make it ten".

Once upon a time, back in the days of Regan and George H. W. Bush, I was proud to call myself a Republican.

To be fair, it's the party of Lincoln in name only. It's the same states that opposed Lincoln that oppose the ACA.

There's no meaningful policy goal in mind; there's no substantive motivation; there isn't even a strategic end goal. There's just a primal instinct and a right-wing id causing a national crisis.

Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown  Washington, DC.

I had to go read the comments.

I liked the "He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing" from Dune.

Unfortunately, the GOP cannot destroy Obamacare with this shutdown.  They need Obama's signature, and can't override his veto (they just don't have the votes).

He controls it

Bachmann has already dropped out.

The real opportunity for Democrats are the Republicans who didn't swear the blood oath or go with a compromise and get primaried.  Loss of the incumbency advantage in a district puts it in play.  It's hard on the 'moderate' Republicans, but what the House really comes down to is who gets to pick the Speaker.  Of course, they might get an offer of running unopposed if enough defected to switch the Chair now...

"I want to apologize for anything I may have said that disrespected Marlin Stutzman," Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) told reporters at a leadership press availability.

Similar apologies were offered by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), who then called on Stutzman to stop disrespecting Americans harmed by the shutdown and agree to reopen the government.

Murray offered a "group hug" if it would help console the congressman.

I don't think so. The longer it drags on the more heat the GOP faces. Eventually they will need to cave. Obama has all the time in the world since time is hurting the opposition.

Obama just needs to LOOK impatient. But no matter what the GOP proposes they DEMS are just going to call for a clean up down vote. Boehner is boned.
