(Sportige)   Things are going so well for Matt Flynn that he's now the highest paid third-string quarterback in the NFL. That's good, right?   (sportige.com) divider line 28

Let's see. You get 6.5 million this year, you get to tell girls you're an NFL quarterback, and you hold a clipboard while someone else gets pummeled?
Yup. That's good.

Nice work, if you can get it.  Although by now I expect that Matt knows that even God doesn't want him on the field too much.  I dunno, maybe he sires the next messiah or something.

Whatever. I'm still gonna call him by his real name, Matt Walter Jr.

Hell, he doesn't even have to carry the clipboard if the Raiders only suit up two QB's!  An undrafted rookie out of State Penn has to do the clipboard work.

They only treat you like that because they love you so much.

That Matt Flynn is a backup to a guy who most said would never make it as an NFL QB is hilarious to me. That he resides on the depth chart behind Moxie McGloin is even more hilarious.

But this Brian Hoyer cat? Man, is he the real deal. Can't wait to throw a 4 year/$30 million offer sheet at him.

Couple years ago there was debate about the Browns going out and getting Flynn - it was hardly universal but there were a significant minority that wanted him no matter the cost.  It's hard for the rest of the world to admit but ocassionally Cleveland does manage to dodge a bullet... we just get plowed over by a bus as we're walking away from the shooting.

$6.5M = $100,000 per year, every year, for 65 years. I'd say things are going pretty farking great.

He sort of had the ideal career.  If you actually plan it going in, that kind of robbery is genius.  JaMarcus Russell may be one of the smartest men on earth.  But probably not.

I see that you too have been subjected to Brett Musburger...

He even got a couple of franchise records for one of the league's biggest franchises out of it, too

Holding a clipboard in Oakland? Not sure what people expected from someone who lost the starting job to JaMarcus Russell in college.

(I'm teasing... I know he was decent in college)

Next year things will be interesting. We'll have basically a full draft and we'll have the most money we've ever had to spend in free agency because all of that Davis era dead cap money will be cleared. We've got a young QB who is finally showing some promise, an improving defense despite a lack of star talent, and an O-line that really only has two holes on it when everyone is healthy. The DMC injury experience will finally be gone too.

Best job in sports. The worst thing that could have happened to Orton was starting.

San Francisco is one town over. With that kind of money, he could afford a 1200 Square foot 2 BR apartment.

That was a horrible game to watch. 50 freaking minutes of football without a score. Well, without a score from the Raiders. FU Flynn, you worthless douche bag! Why don't you and purple drank go choke on a bowl of dicks together.

He made bank because of ONE FARKING GAME. At least Matt Cassel made bank because he had one good season subbing in for Brady. Flynn played lights out for just 4 quarters and now he never has to work a day in his life assuming he doesn't blow it all.

Oh that's coming. I'm feverishly hoping he wins 7 games, convincing the Browns to bypass a QB in the draft, thereby farking the franchise for another couple years when he burns out.

He had two good games (he also went for 3 TD/ 1 INT against the Patriots the year before when Rodgers had to sit out a game due to a concussion).

He should've never gone to the Raiders - he's a competent QB but he's not good enough to overcome a sh*tty team around him. He needs protection and he needs weapons, but if he has those, he'd be a very successful backup. I'm sure the Packers would love to have him back as an insurance policy. With the Raiders, he had no protection and no weapons, especially when McFadden incurred his annual injury.

Hopefully the pick turns out to be Clowney or something worthwhile but don't look for Reggie to spend.  He's a Ted Thompson disciple.  So look forward to a whole lot of Nick Roach-level free agents...

Not exactly a murderer's row in this pool either.

Yeah, it'll be interesting. I hope the team shows some restraint and builds only as fast as the available talent pool allows, even if it takes a few seasons of stockpiling quality from the draft. I'd hate to see a max-cap team because of poor free agent signings. McKenzie & Allen probably get two more years to work it out.

the browns and the raiders are cursed.  Sorry.  There's no worldy explanation for the misery.  It has to be supernatural in origin.  The browns bad juju disappeared when the original team shed the stadium and logo.  I suspect both teams' curses pertain to their egotistical roots.  The raiders had Al, and the Browns were named after a person who was clearly hexed by one of the skeletons in his closet.

Sorry, my crystal ball told me so..
