I hope they have a much more exciting and painless end to their short lives while they are on the lamb than they would have in the cage.

Poor little bastards are screwed, either way. Fur's so trashy. I can't believe people still wear that shiat.

Well most of them will likely starve to death, so who knows.

Yeah, what damage could 500 mink do? It's not like there are birds or squirrels in Canada.

500 MINK?!?

Unless they kill & skin them quickly, they'll deserve what they get.

Per wikipedia escaped mink eventually setup feral mink colonies in Norway.  Why not Vancouver.

"crepuscular critters"?

Most active at dawn and dusk, but should the writer eschew obsfucation?

"You said crepuscular twice" "I like crepuscular"

Maybe you know something I don't, but I think sea otters, cats or dogs would be nasty little animals if kept in little cages and had no meaningful interactions with people.

\Not that sea otters or any other wild animals are domesticated animals and meant to be kept as pets, that is not my point.

Oh, I agree.
With all the money being made, the ranch I worked at wouldn't pay anyone more than 3.50 an hour.

The stink doesn't go away for days...

All mink are, are weasels. They're the same thing as weasels, ferrets, stoats, etc., only with softer, silkier fur. They're small carnivores, and they tend to wreak havoc on an ecosystem unprepared for them. They don't tame easily, or at all, and like their other weaseally brethren, they're just horrible animals.

In the wild, mink exist to kill muskrat, rats, birds, frogs, rabbits, and other small things that live in holes. So there's hardly any reason to keep them around humans.

Maybe I don't get it, but you could make somewhat the same argument for feral cats within degrees.

Except that people generally like cats even if they bring home squirrels and birds, and they might be a little more friendly with people.

(What is the difference between a stoat and a weasel? A weasel is weaselly recognized, while a stoat is stoatally different....)

Typically, they will not. Death by starvation, predation, cars, and many will simply return to the mink farm just to avoid some of those things. That is, after they've screwed with the local fauna.

I'm guessing they won't catch them all and there'll soon be some fat and happy hawks, owls and foxes in that neck of the woods.

The wild ones, yes. But the domestic ferret has been around for nearly 2,500 years, and they are generally pretty cool pets.
