Given 10 or 13 years, his cellmate will probably succeed at some point.

I don't get it. He came all the way from Ohio to rape some Quincy woman? I mean, why not Detroit?

Can't we just give him 6 years of definite rape?

The article said that he was "on a moving job." I wonder if he works for a van line or something. Kinda creepy to think about; he travels all over for work and doesn't stay long. He can grab a target of opportunity and then it's back to Ohio. I wonder if this guy's DNA is going to start hitting with unsolved rape cases all around the country.

If you're using Firefox, just go into Options, and under the "General" tab, tell Firefox to warn you if the page wants to redirect or reload.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Tastes like chicken.

NoScript is taking care of my javascript, and a lot of sites trigger that reload/redirect message unnecessarily and gets to be a hassle.Ridiculous that a site would not let you read the content of the site merely because they perceive that javascript isn't enabled. We need a new client-side language.

I wonder if he did the air quotes when he said this.

Courts are backlogged, simple as that. The only ones that go from crime day to courtroom are the ones with big media potential.

The force of her response on the night of the attack, screaming, biting and fighting her attacker, triggered the police response that ended the assault. That is not always possible. The force of her resolve working with us during the two years that the case has been prosecuted helped us secure this long sentence."

This guy gets caught with his pants down, and it takes two years. Imagine what fresh hell this poor woman has been going through.

It really doesn't matter how guilty the guy looks. In our country, people are presumed innocent, and given the benefit of a trial. We don't authorize vigilante justice. I'm sorry if the fact that the victims have to wait for justice upsets them, but that's far better than letting a mob dismember the guy, only to find out years later that it wan't the right person.

Sin_City_Superhero: In our country, people are presumed innocent, and given the benefit of a trial.

The accused has a right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district the offense was committed in.

But yeah. I guess we do throw out whatever parts of the bill or rights we don't like these days.

Dumb question: is it possible the accused delayed the trial?  I'd think not if they entered a Guilty plea, but some defendants do try to delay.

Sin_City_Superhero: We don't authorize vigilante justice.

And no one called for it (though I bet it felt good to say, am I right?)

Two years.  That's a long time for the victim and the accused to wait for justice to be served whether that means conviction or acquittal.  Especially in a case where the facts present as they do in this one.  There are legitimate reasons that may explain the delay, but they are rare. Justice delayed is justince denied and all that.

Now, don't hurt yourself getting down off your high horse.

I found it interesting that they printed the victim's name.  Most news media follow a self-imposed rule against printing victim name in cases involving sexual offenses.

I'd be willing to bet that if he's psychotic enough to attack and try to rape a random woman on the streets, he's going to try whatever legal shenanigans he can pull to delay his trial and draw out the process to make it more painful for the poor woman out of spite.

She may have wanted it printed. She obviously isn't exactly a weak cowering kind of woman.
