It's totally true, however everyone will focus on the fact that it's Al Jazeera saying it and the message will be lost.

DANA BASH: You all talked about children with cancer unable to go to clinical trials. The House is presumably going to pass a bill that funds at least the NIH. Given what you've said, will you at least pass that? And if not, aren't you playing the same political games that Republicans are?

HARRY REID: Listen, Sen. Durbin explained that very well, and he did it here, did it on the floor earlier, as did Sen. Schumer. What right did they have to pick and choose what part of government is going to be funded? It's obvious what's going on here. You talk about reckless and irresponsible. Wow. What this is all about is Obamacare. They are obsessed. I don't know what other word I can use. They're obsessed with this Obamacare. It's working now and it will continue to work and people will love it more than they do now by far. So they have no right to pick and choose.

BASH: But if you can help one child who has cancer, why wouldn't you do it?

REID: Why would we want to do that? I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own. This is - to have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means you're irresponsible and reckless -

BASH: I'm just asking a question.

That's easy for Al Jazeera to say.  Their paychecks aren't being covered by ad revenue from large corporations.

He is, and actually I can give you the same response he's giving the Republicans - "No.  How about no?  And furthermore, you lost, fark you, no."

Remember, when Republicans negotiate with terrorists, the terrorists get everything they want and the US moves its troops out of Saudi Arabia, the terrorists receive arms and money in exchange for hostages etc.

When Democrats negotiate with terrorists, the terrorist gets a bullet in the head and dumped into the ocean.  That's what's happening here.

That bothers me too.  With as much vitriol and rage I see everywhere about the failing of the media from the most reasonable people I know, you'd think at least one media outlet would take the "unprecedented" leap to actual journalism.  Fact checking, calling out bullshiat statements, addressing the reality of statements by politicians; all of this, rather than the usual "we value both sides, regardless of how potato they are.  Here's another interview with a politician claiming that Obamacare will hunt and kill your grandma".

Why doesn't Reid call Secretary Hagel and tell him that they passed the Pay Our Military Act so that all those people can get paid.  That would be better than trying to use them as pawns.

It takes the terrorists at Al Jazeera to stand up to the terrorists in right wing media. Those other publications are too afraid of being labeled as part of the leftist-liebral-lamestream-media-conspiracy to tell you the truth about what is going on.

From the comments: It is like describing a hostage situation in a robbery as a "unsuccessful negotiation between two parties who are currently unable to come to a middle ground about how many hostages should be killed"

Can't say I disagree with how badly the American media has handled this. It's an unprecedented hijacking of our political system, and the only thing the media can do is say "B-b-but Democrats?" Dana Bash and crew have cemented my decision to never even idly scan through CNN again.

So, no, the shutdown is not generalized dysfunction or gridlock or stalemate. It is aberrational behavior by a political party that is willing to take extreme and potentially damaging action to get its way. And by not calling it what it is, the political press is enabling it.

By why won't the Dems let that kid get his cancer treatment?

One of the most brilliant things the right ever did was brand the media as the "liberal media." Now, in an effort to shed that image, they bend over backwards to create false equivalence. But the really funny part? The people who believe that the media is liberal will never change their opinions no matter how 'balanced' they strive to be.

Really?  Curious.  I have no one on my ignore list.  Who am I trolling by relating that fact?

It's probably because the right wing has spent the last few decades going on and on about the "liberal media". The media is now so scared to be accused of bias they try to frame everything as if there are two equally valid points of view on everything and try their hardest not to call out republicans on their bull shiat.
The myth of the liberal media is what allows the Republican Party to do what they do. It's why people always say republicans are better at messaging they can lie with impunity and say what ever they want and the media reports it all as facts.
