Gage's parents allege that the toy didn't even resemble a firearm, but it was merely a spinning top that he brought to school to show his friends.

Tops sure have changed since I was a kid.

School administrators are idiots. At least all these kids that aren't learning anything can go that route to make a living.

It's a handle for a "Bey Blade", or as I like to call them, "Attack Dreidls".

2013-10-02 01:52:02 PM
The parents say that their son suffers from epilepsy, and that he needs to be in school in order fully comprehend reading and writing. They say the indefinite suspension is not conducive to Gage's education.

Uh.

Apparently my knowledge of epilepsy is way off if it means that not being in school causes issues with reading and writing.

Though I think many children's ability to read and write is affected by not being in school.

2013-10-02 01:57:51 PM
I sure hope the school library doesn't have a hand-eld barcode scanner. Kids wouldn't be safe.

2013-10-02 01:59:29 PM
So the school says he had a different toy, he was pretending to shoot other kids with it, they have pictures of the toy in question, and that it was a one-day suspension.

The parents say he didn't do that, it was this beyblade launcher, and he's out until whenever.

This can't have been too difficult to decipher, local Fox affiliate.  There was no doubt a letter sent home that one of them could produce.

Nation of cowards.

2013-10-02 02:14:56 PM
But guys he said "Bang bang".
Would it be OK if he said "Boom boom?"
What about "Boom boom pow"?

2013-10-02 02:35:02 PM
Haven't we learned that we really need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, like epileptics?

Or something... I'm trying to figure out how the epilepsy factors in here.

2013-10-02 02:49:34 PM
Now they're getting suspended for freakin Beyblades?

Wait, Bey-BLADE

OMGWTFBBQ THAT'S A KNIFE AND A GUN! SUHSPENSHUN!

Can someone explain to me what epilepsy has  to do with any of this? I'm a little shaky on that.

also, he has epilepsy.

2013-10-02 03:10:02 PM
If you hold it a certain way and say "bang bang" then yeah, it looks like a gun. So does a pencil or just about anything.

In other news, America continues to be insanely obsessed with guns. It's just batshiat crazy on all sides.

It seems to me the teacher was being a dick.

2013-10-02 03:10:19 PM
Doesn't look like a gun?

Well, it doesn't have a barrel.  But it sure looks like a handgun handle.

THAT SAID...

Expelling a kid for this is the height of stupid zero-tolerance (e.g. zero-thought) policies.

2013-10-02 03:10:21 PM
Zero tolerance is for people with zero intelligence.

2013-10-02 03:10:27 PM
Hilarious. You tolerate zero tolerance policies and this is the result.

2013-10-02 03:11:52 PM
The parents say that their son suffers from epilepsy, and that he needs to be in school in order fully comprehend reading and writing.

Are there different types of epilepsy that cause cognitive or learning disabilities? Because those two statements, while both true, don't really seem to have much to do with each other.

2013-10-02 03:12:05 PM
Zero tolerance = zero sense

Maybe people shouldn't be so panicky all the damn time !

2013-10-02 03:12:07 PM
What does him having epilepsy have to do with this? Or is this just a ploy for sympathy?

2013-10-02 03:12:09 PM
"...he needs to be in school in order fully comprehend reading and writing."

Looks like author Dominic Kelly is epileptic. Should probably get that checked out

Sorry folks, my outrage meter zeroed out.  Everybody back to your corners, we'll try this again tomorrow.

I know right? Can you believe 0bummer even flew to the school that day to personally take the kid off school grounds? It seems he would have better things to do than that. Like GO GOLFING!

"The actual toy did actually resemble a gun," said Tonya Holcomb, chief communications director for Choice Schools Associate

That's your problem right there.  The school has a "chief communications director", whatever the fark that is.

Schools have a principal, teachers, a nurse, and lunch ladies.  And that's all.

Gage's parents say he suffers from epilepsy and school hours are critical to grasping reading and writing

So critical he's sitting in class goofing off with a toy.

As usual there's basically no objective information available about this event, so everybody sound off on either side of the room and we'll march dutifully toward one another armed with our assumptions and irrelevant analogies.

Okay, if you bring an actual gun to school, that's bad. If you bring a very realistic toy gun to school and make people think it's real, that's bad. If you bring something that's not a gun to school, but it sort of looks like one if you squint just right, that's every person on the planet at one point or another.
