Still no apology forthcoming from the Mooninite freak-out of 2007, but it will do.

Yeah you don't back out of a bet just because you lost.

2013-10-02 02:56:51 PM
I was expecting some serious butt-hurt in the youtube comments, but then again, it's not the Red Wings.

2013-10-02 02:58:22 PM
If the hawks can't repeat, I'd like to see Boston take it.

2013-10-02 03:06:06 PM
I feel like this is making bets on behalf of other people. This is the people of Boston's website, not Menino's. He had no right. On the other hand, I don't really care.

I hope this doesn't strain the relationship between intellectual powerhouses Mumbles Menino and The Godfather!

Ehh, it's kinda a stupid bet anyway. A real bet would be to make Chicago stop calling that casseroll they love a pizza vs make the Red Sox retire Roger Clemens's number

I wouldn't say the Bruins got "owned" Subby.

Taking the series to six games isn't getting owned, the Penguins got owned.

2013-10-02 03:22:30 PM
Menino is a good reason why people disrespect Boston, and by proxy the people of Boston.  If you constantly re-elect a mayor that cannot speak intelligibly it reflects poorly on the town and its residents.

//Hate Menino, but props to him for actually honoring a bet.

2013-10-02 03:24:42 PM
Well, nobody expected Rahm to pass up an opportunity to rub someone's nose in a loss, did they?

2013-10-02 03:24:53 PM
I'm OK with this.

A bet is a bet and Chicago is a cool city.

2013-10-02 03:26:25 PM
It's a more creative bet than something stupid like some chowdah or lobstah.

And the Hawks won fair and square.  Good for them.

Two goals in 17 seconds in the final 1:16 of the game to come from behind and win the Cup...that's at least a "you got told" moment.

2013-10-02 03:30:50 PM
I liked reading the letters the mayors wrote detailing their bets:

To Rahm: Thank you for the note. It's no surprise that such a verbose letter came from the Windy City. ... Please use ground transport as I would like to avoid any weather delays.

By the way, I'm not subby. I respect the B's style of play too much for that.

Plus subby spelled Chicago's team name as "Black Hawks" - What is this, pre 1986?

That's a gut punch.  1:30 left in the game and you know you're going to a game seven and you have the momentum going in.  Okay, the game is tied, but we're still in control.  Oh fark.

//Been on both sides of that in rec hockey.  To say a loss like that is disheartening is an understatement.

Who outside of Boston or Massachusetts knows who the Mayor of Boston is? And even if they do, have heard him speak? Menino no more should be a reason why people 'disrespect' Bostonians than Ariel Castro should be a reason to look down on anyone from Ohio.

I've never heard Menino speak, so I'm going to go to Youtube and see if there are any examples.  He can't be as bad as Mayor Daley.  I don't mean Richie, I'm talking about the old man, Mare Daley.  He would be fumbling for words in a normal speech, and if he got pissed off, he'd get all red in the face and begin to sputter all kinds of nonsense.  Menino would really have to be a piece of work to beat out Old Man Daley.

Menino often makes radio shows with his malapropisms, mumbling, and pretty much murdering of the English language.  Also as the mayor of one of the large cities in the US, he often shows up on the national news.  Think of how DC looked bad because of Marion Berry or Detroit with Kwame.

Using Ariel Castro as an comparison example is stupid.  The people of Cleveland (who have no problem looking bad on their own) did not elect Castro to be a bus driver, whereas Menino has been elected over and over again to represent the people of Boston.

OK, I've been to Youtube and listened to Menino speak.  Wow!!  I mean WOW!!  Does that take me back in time.  It's like listening to Old Man Daley again, but, with a Boston accent.  Too bad Old Man Daley isn't still alive, he and Menino could have a contest, like a Battle of Gibberish.  They would have to have the closed caption running, just you would the faintest idea of what they were struggling to say.

I wish there were more of these good matured fun bets in sports.

/there needs to be one yearly for the Ohio State v Michigan game
//and several others in the state of Ohio

Yep, totally.  I noticed this during the aftermath to the bombings, and thought the same thing.

Here's a F*ck You to subby.  "Owned"?  F*ck You.  (Am inclined to say something about your mother, and I guess I did, but...picture it like Egon to Pecker.)

Here's a tip of the cap to the 'Hawks.  Hurt like hell, but great series.  Well earned.

Very close to a PPG by the Wings... more than once.

2013-10-02 09:21:34 PM
Oh, damn, looked like a Wings goal there, but they're calling goaltender interference. BS.

2013-10-02 09:23:05 PM
And now a makeup call. The player just sat down there, no interference whatsoever.

Just now, Doc is noticing that there is a team other than the Detroit Red Wings on the ice. Welcome to the game, Doc!

2013-10-02 09:32:32 PM
Well I can only hope for improvement this year but when miller and vanek leave its going to be even more painful

2013-10-02 09:32:50 PM
I'm still kind of sad that the Wings are no longer a division rival for the Hawks. Oh, well... a Wings/Hawks SCF would rock.

/way too early to call such a thing

And yes, this is a huge reason why I dislike Mike Emerick. His verbs have no bearing on what's actually happening on the ice.

Also, dammit Mike, it's pronounced "Hodson"

2013-10-02 09:38:05 PM
You can tell this Sabres team hasn't played very long together. They have played the puck into areas where there are no white shirts around at least 3 or 4 times.

I feel like a jaguars fan
