I remember what happened to this poor sap in the primaries. I think it's actually illegal in Utah.

I know a few of these. A few. Unfortunately they are outnumbered by those who think Glenn Beck holds a position of authority in the church. Sad.

I'd love to see him run in 2016.

Unfortunately, neither main party would ever nominate him.

He'd probably win if the GOP nominated him.

I love how 1000's of Democrats say something and it's "meh" but when a Republican says the same thing it's "OMG he is so smart lets make him king!!!" I guess it's that saying a dwarf among midgets.

The GOP really is like the special olympics. People applaud them if the don't just drool on themselves.

They aren't going extinct so much as evolving a mimic like defense in the form of Conservative Democrats.  Inside, they're still the same old sane Republicans.  Outside?  They're wearing a donkey pin.

Perfect timing! Now he can get himself into the mix and stand out.
It was tough to get his message across last time around with all of the clamoring of the GOP hopefuls trying to get to the front of the derp line.

As long as the primaries continue to be held in the small/crazy states Republicans like Huntsman will be a diminishing group.

Kind of what I was thinking.

I mean, sure, it's kind of cool that the guy doesn't buy into all the BS that his party enforces, but the fact he doesn't seem to think that the fact his party is actively acting to harm the country isn't a reason to leave it is kind of off-putting.

Plus, it's easy for him to be brave because it isn't like he has anything electorally to lose.

WTF is up with the pretty airheads for interviewers? flip through the names at the top of the screen. at Fox it's all blondes all the time and here it seems to be brunets but the questions and interviewing skills are the same, lame as hell. the token black guy isn't any better.

I seem to remember Huntsman panicking at the end of the primaries and trying to play the derp role, only to come off looking psycho for having shifted his rhetoric so sharply.

I remember at one point liking John Hunstman and then having the realization that the only reason I liked him was not because he had any good or sensible policy decisions, but because he lacked the horrific ideology that the GOP has come to embrace.

I like him not because he's good, but because he's not terrible. Not terrible is now the best the Republican party has to offer.

The problem is that Huntsman is still pretty crazy. The Teahadists have simply forced us to change our definition of what crazy is. We've become more accepting of mildly crazy because they're not yet pants-on-head crazy .

Ergo, he is un-electable as a Republican.

Farking GOP-voting morons. You don't need "Tough", you need "smart", you need "sane", and above all you need "compromise". There is NO person, and NO Party that has ever existed in the history of ever that has all the answers, no matter how many times your Mouthpieces tell you so. Huntsman represents someone who will still represent the values of the Right, but is also intelligent enough and has the integrity to meet in the middle when it is the best solution.

As Governor of Utah, Huntsman left people on both sides well satisfied, he would make a great President, but those morons on the Right can't see past their ideology far enough to recognize what a good leader actually is.

That was probably what drove the moderates completely away from the GOP. It looked like no matter what his personal beliefs were, Huntsman would have been used as a rubber stamp for every piece of Kochsucking legislation put in front of him.

Really, I think his best role is Secretary of State. I was hoping he would get it above Kerry - especially given his experience with China.

From his appearance to his odd style of speaking, he reminds me too much of Steve Austin from 30 Rock.  I think there's a level of crazy - and not overbearing, rights-restricting crazy, just plain dementia - that is lurking below the surface.

Let's hope that message comes across in 2016. If the Republicans win, I sure hope it's Huntsman. Couldn't imagine any one else taking the wheel. It's like what happened here in Utah when Huntsman left... Herbert took over, became the LDS church suck-puppet and started rolling back all of the progressive momentum that was going on.
I think people would be pleased with a Huntsman presidency. Nothing too radical, just steady progress and compromise.

That was his biggest weakness in the presidential election: being reasonable.  The modern GOP thinks rational, reasonable discussion is a sign of weakness.  They want brash and passionate.

I think this would be dependent on how willing Huntsman would be to buck his party. If the GOP gains full control of Congress, they'll advance a radical legislative agenda, so the ultimate is question is whether or not Huntsman would be willing to veto that agenda.

I personally think that no, he would not, especially not in his first term, and not unless the law in question was particularly egregious. Even then, he might sign it and trust that it will be gobsmacked by the courts.

All of this right here.  Huntsman isn't a hero, and he's still a Republican.  He doesn't get to be a hero for begin sane.  The bar is higher than that.
