As I've said this in the past and will probably continue to in the the future:

The Nobel Prize nominations are open to just about any of thousands of public intellectuals, academics, government officials and institutional officials around the world. They are free to nominate just about anyone they want - there is no limit to who they can nominate. Some nominate their own mothers. Hitler has been nominated in 1939 and Stalin was nominated in 1945 and 1948.

The fact that you were nominated at this stage means absolutely nothing. Nominations are broad and are available to all. Only when you actually get considered by the Nobel Committee that it means something.

Yeah, but Obama, won one without justification.  Even people who like Obama think it was a dumb idea.

Then when Barack Obama, Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin all win Nobel Peace prizes you know it don't mean anything.

If Obama can win the Nobel Peace Prize the standards are pretty low. Why not Putin?

True, but I always saw that as a symbolic nomination and award to the entire American people for electing somebody who was not a Republican, ushering in a new time of peace.

Ha, sure fooled them.
