Wait, so he didn't actually filibuster?  Just because his topics were inane and he could have spent his time first picking apart the Affordable Care Act, problem-by-problem and then slowly working his way through a detailed counter-proposal to fix all of them, making sure of course to not use the words "Affordable Care Act" doesn't mean it wasn't a filibuster.

Now if he wasn't actually holding up any legislation, then I apologize subby.  Thank you for the schadenfreude regardless.

I think we've discovered that there is quite literally no group on Earth the GOP will not insult.  They'd find a way to throw some shiat at the transgendered lesbian Eskimo community, should they discover it exists.  They really are reprehensible little turds.

It was a fake Filibuster, the Senate was not actually in session during that display, and Reid already had a cloture agreement, both side just agreed to let him talk for 23 hours while no actual bill of any sort was actually pending.

A ha.  My apologies, again, subby.  Thank you for the clarification AND the schadenfreude.

Coco LaFemme: I think we've discovered that there is quite literally no group on Earth the GOP will not insult.

From what I've seen, they feel completely at ease using any nasty-sounding thing to compare to anything they don't like.  There is no historical context involved, just if it sounds nasty, it fits.  Ted Cruz is no dummy, but he's completely absorbed into the echo chamber at this point.

Actually if he talked for 21 straight hours and only dropped one embarrassing whopper like this, that would be something.  But I turned it on once and he was busy lauding Ayn Rand and specifically Atlas Shrugged and it was freaking embarrassing for me.

Yeah, it was a 'filibuster' in the same way that the janitorial staff coming in during the night and being the only people talking for a while is a 'filibuster'.

2013-10-02 01:40:13 PM
It wasn't so much a filibuster but more "Hey I'm going to be on TV and stick it to Obama for about a day so people will see me and consider me for 2016."

Reid was a boxer, and knows a thing or two about strategy.  In essence, he stood back and said: "please proceed" and let Cruz do all the damage.  It really is not that hard out-thinking half-wits.

Heard one claiming Obamacare was the "most insidious law ever created by man". That's some pretty impressive fear mongering.

Have they compared the ACA to that time American soldiers massacred Germans at Malmedy?

/or does that full under a blanket "Hitler" reference?

He deserves to be flipped off and a pink slip in a manila envelope. At least Republicans know now where to put the blame-pin. Oy vey.

Given enough time, I'm sure Cruz will get the Rape of Nanking into the national conversation.

I'm sure it wouldn't take me long to come up with a quote from one of these chowderheads to the effect that Obama is "destroying America."

We need more fanatics and ideologues instead.

He should have chosen a comparison to something along those lines, but happened much farther back in history so that there would be no current survivors.

I don't think anyone would have had a problem if he'd compared his speech to the Trail of Tears.

No, he didn't actually filibuster. He wasn't holding up legislation, he was just talking. Poorly, from all accounts.

Everyone's favorite filibustering Kentuckian called them "goons," the National Park Service police that closed the site, like they did with all national parks.  It was nice that he didn't call them "thugs," because then everyone would think that members of the Service Employees International Union did it.
