Did they sell smartphones in America? Only thing I know about Panasonic are the other products from them I use.

Probably not. This news isn't really relevant for the American market. The big cell phone players here have gone from Nokia/Motorola to Apple/Samsung over the past decade. Now, if you were living in Japan a decade ago Panasonic, Sony, and NEC were duking it out for top dog status. Last phone I had there was a Panasonic and it was years ahead of the phone I picked up here when I came back.

I have a hand-me-down Panasonic bicycle, so nothing really surprises me anymore.

They should have brought back a popular advertising series to boost sales.

They officially changed the name of the company to Panasonic over five years ago.

The Bestest: They officially changed the name of the company to Panasonic over five years ago.

Which they had to do, because just like MrEricSir's response, their original name often triggered profanity filters.

I had no idea they sold phones. But, every Panasonic electronic device I've ever owned has been as reliable as an anvil. I've got a 20 year old CD player that works like new. We also still have a Panasonic VCR that still works... I think.

/ yes, old phart who still listens to CD's on occasion
