One half of him works a lot better than the other, to be sure.

Surely the half that does the thinking isn't the better-working half?

I have no idea who this German hammer guy is but he seems to make a valid observation.

Which is an incredibly rare event for him.

/used to see his columns in Time Magazine, back when I was a subscriber

If 80 Republicans are the problem that why can't the remaining Republicans and all the Democrats get the deal done, Mr. Boehner?

These congressman don't represent the country at large, but small slivers of white, less educated conservatives who voted heavily for Mitt Romney.

Damn straight.

Fox News panelist Charles Krauthammer warned over the weekend that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was leading Republicans on a "suicide" mission to defund President Barack Obama's health reform law with an attempted government shutdown

Charles Krauthammer agrees with Obama & company that Republicans are terrorists.  Specifically, suicide bombers.

I wonder how many of these "contributors" have looked over the devastation they wrought and thought, "My god, what have i done?"

While he does sometime dive headfirst into the derp zone, some of his written editorials are quite well crafted. That's just the way he rolls.

The simple answer is that as soon as a Republican breaks rank and says they will vote for the CR, without the defunding of ACA included, he will immediately get 'primaried' by an ever farther right Tea Bagger.  They have already set their sites on McConnell and Boehner for even suggesting the alternative.  At this point the 'leadership' of the House GOP is not with the designated leaders, but with 3-4 guys with views so extreme there is no way to compromise with them unless you offer your total surrender.

When Charles Party Line Krauthammer refers to this group as the Suicide Caucus, there's something wrong. The real question is why would Boehner give them so much clout? Eighty out of 435 is just 18%. Why lead your party over a cliff for 18%? What do they have on Boehner?

Exactly. I until I am watching them have an Oscar Schindler level breakdown in public and/or reading their highly apologetic suicide note they are still just filth.

Sounds to me like they are voting exactly the way their constituents elected them to vote. If only there was a term for a democracy where we elect representatives to advance our views on our behalf......

Because Krauthammer is talking the party line. Here's what is really happening. The Republicans decided in January to use riders on "must pass" legislation to sink Obama's 2nd term. In January, demoralized House Republicans retreated to Williamsburg, Virginia, to plot out their legislative strategy for President Obama's second term. Conservatives were angry that their leaders had been unable to stop the expiration of the Bush tax cuts on high incomes, and sought assurances from their leaders that no further compromises would be forthcoming.

Because Boehner is hostage to the completely voluntary Hastert Rule.
