... and yet the Teabaggers will whoop and cheer on their Anarchist GOP politicians, as they put people out of work for no reason other than sheer spite. Next up: Hurting the credit rating of the US Government, defaulting on our debts, and potentially driving the world economy back into a deep recession. Again, out of sheer spite.

Stairs will work too, unless the inbred trailer-trash monkeys of the Tea Party have access to off-road Rascals.

Exactly right.  This isn't a Democrat/Republican dispute.  This is an internal Republican fight that's spilled over to the national stage because their usual fixer, Mitch McConnell, has been sidelined by a Tea party primary challenge.  The real problem is that Boehner, a non-insane Republican himself, has no control over the crazy faction in his caucus and is letting them run the show.

Won't be a recession, it will be a depression and the US as we know it will never come out of it.

People often post it here, but it's true.

Today's Republican Party is the greatest threat the United States has ever faced.  At least since the Civil War, anyway.

That's the face of paralyzing cognitive dissonance.

My jaw dropped when he said:
"I'm sorry, I can`t stay in character. That`s just wrong"

I don`t recall that ever happening before.

We're not going to go over the debt ceiling cliff-Obama is, for what faults he has, a pragmatist (which is, arguably, where some of his faults may *come from*).

I highly suspect he'll go the 14th amendment route. And what is the republican house going to do? Impeach him? Impeach him *WHILE THERE'S A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN*? Oh yes. The fun and games antics of the Clinton Impeachment COMBINED with a government shutdown is going to go over *so very well* with the american people.

Andrew Sullivan hits the nail on the head.

When ideologies become as calcified, as cocooned and as extremist as those galvanizing the GOP, the American system of government cannot work. But I fear this nullification of the last two elections is a deliberate attempt to ensure that the American system of government as we have known it cannot work. It cannot, must not work, in the mindset of these radicals, because they simply do not accept the legitimacy of a President and Congress of the opposing party. The GOP does not regard the president as merely wrong - but as illegitimate. Not misguided - illegitimate. This is not about ending Obamacare as such (although that is a preliminary scalp); it is about nullifying this presidency, the way the GOP attempted to nullify the last Democratic presidency by impeachment.
Except this time, of course, we cannot deny that race too is an added factor to the fathomless sense of entitlement felt among the GOP far right. You saw it in birtherism; in the Southern GOP's constant outrageous claims of Obama's alleged treason and alliance with Islamist enemies; in providing zero votes for a stimulus that was the only thing that prevented a global depression of far worse proportions; in the endless race-baiting from Fox News and the talk radio right. And in this racially-charged atmosphere, providing access to private healthcare insurance to the working poor is obviously the point of no return.

It was awesome. The dumb twat pulls out every Fox News/Rand Paul meaningless talking point, gets smacked down, and literally has nothing to say.  It's almost too bad Samantha Bee wasn't doing the interview, because she could have gotten away with (literally) biatch-slapping that idiot at the end.

Yep. As much as I enjoyed Jon comparing the Republican horror of kids not getting a White House tour to the perfectly okay (in Republi-think) infants not getting food, I enjoyed even more the moment when Jason Jones said he could stay in character because her TSA-will-perform-breast-exams was bullshiat. More people ought to do this regularly.

Yep.  That's them in a nutshell: it's not their fault the world goes to hell.  If we were blindly loyal to their "ideology", we wouldn't have the problems we have now.

Of course, that would require not using your brain, having a lobotomy or just not having a brain at all period.

Have a woman working here that's a major Ted Cruz fan.  Complete and total teahadist in her political beliefs and knowledge.  She was literally laughing and giggling when talking about the shutdown today.  "Good, keep it down forever, they're all useless leaches," etc etc.
