I'm generally pretty pro-union, but the shiat police unions pull sometimes makes me want to yank my hair out.

I've heard that Nevada is pretty hard on drugs, which is surprising being that Vegas is an adult playground.

I was told, IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, that what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas.

Was this a lie?

I'm surprised they would run. Maybe it's not legal for the police to do whatever they want in Hawaii? Just have your badge out when they walk up and anything goes here.

"What people don't see is the circumstances that led up to the termination and also how the investigation was conducted," said Tenari Maafala, who heads the statewide police officers' union.

It's always something us ordinary people just can't understand. There's always a special circumstance when cops do the things they bust other people for. When a cop runs afoul of some arbitrary government edict, commits some non-crime (an act that has no victim), it's just different for reasons us mundane non-uniformed people just couldn't comprehend or understand.

The mystery is why they just didn't learn what the local Vegas cop 'tell' is. Ticket book on the dash, hat band on the mirror, just do whatever the local tradition and practice is and they wouldn't have even been bothered. Even if they were bothered it's nothing a show of badge wouldn't fix in most places. It's unlikely it was Joe Friday and Barney Fife that approached their vehicle.

C'mon, this isn't so bad. There'll be some wacky hijinks, the stern Commandant will get his come-uppance, and at strategic points the sexy blonde with the tight hairdo and the mirrored shades will get undressed and take a shower for no reason and we'll all get to see the spectacular hooters that have practically been bursting through her uniform all this time. Then there'll be a big problem that can only be solved through teamwork, imitating a robot over a loudspeaker, and using a larger-than-regulation handgun to shoot the wire holding up the chandelier that's right above the bad guys.

I'll never understand why Hawaiians would want above all places to go to Vegas. But it does appear to be a "thing" with them; one of the very top destinations they pick.

And then a huge wedding cake rises from a concealed compartment under the floor. Justin Bieber and Myley Cyrus are copulating atop it. They are nude, and have lots of deformities. Green mist rises from iridescent sores on their greasy bodies.
The smiling face of Liberace shines down on the whole scene.
It's a wrap!

Vegas is nicknamed the "9th Hawaiian Island", and yes it's good to vacation there.  Cheap shopping (no Kohls, JC Penny, Bed Bath Beyond, etc.. in HI), gambling, fun, drinking (hawaii liquor laws are from the 20's); and it's only a 5 - 6 hour flight tops.  Plus good place to meet friends/family who live somewhere on the mainland too, centralized and something for everyone.

/yep, gets boring sucking up those mai-tais on the beach everyday!
//dwell on that while you're raking leaves and shoveling snow.  ;)

Meh. Just because he's assigned to the training academy doesn't mean he's training. They do a lot of administrative grunt work and that's probably what they have him doing. Cops that have been fired an reinstated don't usually have a great reputation with the higher-ups.

Really depends on what it is, and if you are causing a problem with all the other fun that is happening. Weed they dont care about. My brother is a Deputy DA, and in charge of the criminal division, and he just laughs when he sees weed charges come through. Doesnt have the time to deal with it...meth on the other hand

Too expensive. An average single family home in Hawaii in about $630k. If you don't want to make a one and a half hour commute every morning, expect to pay closer to $850k to live closer to town. Food, gasoline and utility costs are the highest in the nation by a pretty big margin.

My mom and dad visit Vegas about 3-4 times a year. I don't get it either. Their hostess at the Wynn will comp their room, meals and transportation so I know they're spending (losing) some serious money. But they enjoy it - it's their money to spend so I don't interfere. Sometimes they win big and that keeps them hooked.

Godscrack: But it's ok when they do it. And they do it all the time.

Brings to mind a CSB my friend told me.  He was part of a softball league with one cop team, which almost never lost a game.  One team kind of new to the league asked why no one beat the cops, and was told "Trust us, don't beat them."  Well the new team did beat the cop team and paid the price.  It wasn't unusual for all the players to drink and celebrate after the games, and the cop team was no exception.  However, after the game they lost, they didn't drink and busted the winning team as soon as they hit the road.

Meanwhile the people HE arrests for drug charges go to jail, lose their jobs, and often lose their families.

Good jerb cops.
