The only thing worse than a 53-year sentence is the concurrent life sentence

The lost touch when she got pregnant at 16?

And they say romance is dead...

Hasn't the Judge heard about cruel and unusual punishment? The marriage not the 53 years.

See? This is the right idea. Weddings are out-of-control expensive.

At least he'll be getting conjugal visits instead of having sex with John Coffey.

Pregnant at 16, and now married to a convicted murderer.  Mom named her Destiny for a reason.

Follow the money, folks. What we have now is a married woman with a child and a husband in prison. I'm betting that there are federal & state benefits available to someone in that state, hence the urgency of the marriage.

It's simple, she likes the idea of being married more than she likes having a man around.  I bet she rolls over easy, too.

Not "rich", but working the system - he's in prison for the next half-century, but she now has benefits even as she probably ends up in a relationship with another guy. It's a sweet deal - no skin off the prisoner, and no actual fraud.

WOW. That's a stiff sentence.

A lot of women would think this is an ideal marriage. You only see him once or twice a month, someone else cooks and cleans for him, and you always know where he is!

Yes. I can see their nefarious plan now. Get pregnant at 16. Pretend you don't know her for years. Get charged with murder. Spend 50 years in jail. PROFIT.

They are farking GENIUSES!

"Hey. I know we haven't seen each other in years, but can you do me a solid? Yeah, pretend marry me so I can get some of that sweet, sweet guvment money. Cool. I know you are busy with this whole not wanting to go to prison, but can you just get found guilty so I can get some welfare?"

And how DARE the guy appeal! He might ruin her sweet plan for welfare!

Jesus...

So, women who marry prisoners....

I don't get it.

Unless they want the ability to say they are married (i.e., *someone* wanted them) without actually dealing with having a man around?

To me, the best thing about being married *is* having the man around.

From TFA: witness comes forward with new evidence to now convict him on a 10 year old case.

Methinks witness won't have to visit baby mama via back porch door now.

I live not far from a medium-security correctional facility.

Judging by the young women that ride my bus and disembark at the jail stop there must be something that attracts young women to jailbirds.
