Oh noes.
Someone was smart enough to bring a parachute to a place where so many died, had they had chutes in the first place?

Somebody think of the children

2013-10-01 02:25:51 PM
You know, had the police kept quiet. the parachutists in question would have posted the video to Youtube and been identified.

This is the NYPD.
Don't give them too much credit.
Their post 9.11 law Enforcement strategy has been to stop and frisk brown people w/o a warrant.
They are what you might call real rocket surgeons.

And yet somehow I am still amazed by the number of people who can't brain the Intertubes.
I have no doubt the video of this basejump exists and may even already be posted.

Ummm...they walked!

Wasn't that also their pre-9/11 law enforcement strategy?  I seem to recall it started in the mid-1990's.

I can hear the conspiracy nuts now, terrorist training to see our response when they parachute bombs into the area from other buildings. We will see if they increase security to the nearby building.

Pretty suicidal to do that in the middle of night in the financial district.  Lots and lots of shadowy, narrow streets down there.

Presumably, they walked it would seem.

Police playing stupid again. Hmm.

As though that whole island isn't covered with surveillance cameras.
They know where they went and how they went there. Now they just need to put out a notice on the vehicle and wait.

They wore out any heroism and respect quickly. They had such an opportunity. Now the NYFD fellas? Still kick ass.

Are they really still calling it Ground Zero? It's getting rebuilt as a Memorial and various nWTC buildings, including Super America Freedom Tower.

Wow, all the way up to 2001? Nearly two years after the previous century was said to end? Wellllllll, we had a good run, didn't we?

Would the last citizen who thinks we still live in a free society to get arrested please turn out the lights.

/(I don't care if you're one of those pedants who think a century starts in the year ending in '01, you're still a pedant)

They've been doing it since the 1970s, but greatly increased its use under Lee Brown and succeeding commissioners beginning in the early '90s. People started really complaining about it after Amadou Diallo was shot in 1999. A federal judge banned it in August of this year.

Got to have a visual to go with it too.

classictvhistory.files.wordpress.com

/It's a dark object, perhaps a skydiver plummeting to the earth from only two thousand feet in the air... There's a third... No parachutes yet... Those can't be skydivers.

I remember a Discovery Channel show where some guys base-jumped from the twin towers. It vanished after 9/11. If I worked in a tall building, I most definitely would buy a chute.

It's against the law?  It's dangerous?

Personally, I don't care, but if you're doing something that can get you killed, that may not be a good idea.

So anytime something happens in Lower Manhattan near the Memorial, the article has to reference 9/11?
