Sybarite: Does Huey Lewis still get a chunk of that?
DjangoStonereaver: He just wants to work with Cindy Harrell again:[imvdb.com image 598x344]
Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: I like how Fark is basically becoming a word-association game for mouth breathers.Ray Parker Jr...Huey Lewis!!!!!
ristst: Would Led Zepplin get a cut too?Whoa there, sorry...Zep was the band ripping off OTHER artists!
Primitive Screwhead: Ray Parker Jr.'s early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Ghostbusters came out in '84, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The song has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the chorus a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Ray has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
THX 1138: I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that the song is a rip-off of Huey Lewis. I guess that must not be widely known.
doctor wu: THX 1138: ristst: Would Led Zepplin get a cut too?Whoa there, sorry...Zep was the band ripping off OTHER artists!/wonder if I'll get any bites for this oneIf by bites, you mean "people who totally agree", then I guess you got one from me./i do like zeppelin but yes, they were sometimes stealing stealers who stealed.Ah, more idiots with the absurdly selective fixation on Zeppelin and the erroneaous idea that they somehow borrowed more freely or gave less credit than 99% of the rest of the entire rock and roll genre. Nobody with any real knowledge of music history believes it, boys, only losers like yourselves. And I'm not even a huge Zeppelin fan.
Combustion: No, but your post would have been relevant like...35 years ago.
durbnpoisn: Thank goodness for this thread, or I would have never gone to research what really happened with Huey Lewis. This is the story, as it turns out.Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr for stealing "I Want a New Drug". Huey Lewis was sued by M for stealing "Pop Muzik".Ray Parker ended up suing Huey Lewis for breaking confidentiality after it came out that Huey, in fact, won his case.So it seems everyone was ripping off Huey Lewis the whole time. Who knew?
jbtilley: I don't know all the details but I never understood the whole Huey Lewis thing. So it sounds similar, most music does. Is the first ska band entitled to sue everyone after them because they sound similar?/Metallica patents E and F chords
