he claims the song itself accounted for more than $20 million of box office profits.

I doubt that Ghostbusters made any profit.

steamingpile: Zepplin stealing is a bit of a stretch though, the band was gonna list them but their manager stopped them from giving any credits away because it meant less money for them and ultimately him as well. This is the same huge man who was a dick to promoters, shoved people who wouldn't get out of his way, and was overall just a huge douchebag. Jimmy Page was apologetic to artists who influenced and who they had based a few of their songs but ultimately saying they are thieves is crazy since most of their best songs were original, they hits I wouldn't consider their best. Also I forget the documentary I saw but they wound up paying those old blues artists later.

Oddly enough, I never saw The Song Remains the Same until recently...and man, you aren't kidding about Peter Grant being one nasty sumbiatch.  The scene where he's ripping the venue guys for bootleg t-shirts comes to mind, and that was probably one of the milder ones from what I've read about him.

I'm pretty sure Dazed and Confused was a 100% ripoff, and it wasn't by an old blues dude.

It's about 80% They changed the lyrics and some of the instrumentation (and vastly improved the song in the process).

Harry Freakstorm: Do I get a cut for having to listen to that song on the radio both in it's original presentation and in it's shameless use in almost every radio and TV commercial produced in 1984.

The movie producers tried to sign Huey Lewis to write the theme but they couldn't close the deal.

Then they hired Ray Parker Jr, and told him to do something like "I Want A New Drug."

So, yeah, it was kinda a blatant rip-off of Huey Lewis.

I essentially agree with you, but the Ray Parker/Huey Lewis story goes beyond that.  At least from what I've read.  The Ghostbusters producers wanted Huey Lewis to do the theme song, but for whatever reason he said no.  So they got Ray Parker to do it, and asked him to essentially sound like Huey Lewis.  Or something like that.  There *was* more to it than coincidence.

News to him, I'm sure.

THX 1138: ristst: Would Led Zepplin get a cut too?

Ah, more idiots with the absurdly selective fixation on Zeppelin and the erroneaous idea that they somehow borrowed more freely or gave less credit than 99% of the rest of the entire rock and roll genre. Nobody with any real knowledge of music history believes it, boys, only losers like yourselves. And I'm not even a huge Zeppelin fan.

It makes more sense when you know that at the time, Huey Lewis and the News was the hottest thing on the radio, and were approached by the movie company to make a song for Ghostbusters. For whatever reason, Lewis turned them down. Then comes Ray Lewis Jr, with a song that is way too close to be a coincidence.

It's also one of the worse games of all time.  Granted, it had so much potential, but to call it mindnumbing and unfun would be an understatement.
