The way it affects me in Britain is that news about your weak-kneed political time-servers, who are more concerned with their personal vendettas and private power struggles than the problems of government; who sacrifice their credibility by denying free debate on vital matters in the mistaken impression that party unity comes before the well-being of the people they supposedly represent; who are squabbling little toadies without an ounce of concern for the vital social problems of today; and are crabby ulcerous little self-seeking vermin with furry legs and an excessive addiction to alcohol and certain explicit sexual practices which some people might find offensive, is taking up an inordinate and preposterous amount of space in our newspaper, television and radio reports and thereby displacing news about our weak-kneed political time-servers, who are more concerned with their personal vendettas and private power struggles than the problems of government; who sacrifice their credibility by denying free debate on vital matters in the mistaken impression that party unity comes before the well-being of the people they supposedly represent; who are squabbling little toadies without an ounce of concern for the vital social problems of today; and are crabby ulcerous little self-seeking vermin with furry legs and an excessive addiction to alcohol and certain explicit sexual practices which some people might find offensive.

So yeah, thanks for that, America - cheers.

On a side note,I enjoy when websites have menus that follow you down the screen, obstructing your view of the article.

cards fan by association: It means we all have to endure libertarians using the shutdown of non essential services as an example that we don't need the gub'mint for anything.

What do you call 600,000 non-essential government employees with nothing to do all day but surf the Internet?

Tuesday.

Oblio13: I have a dream: that one day the White House and Air Force One will be shut down, and the Obama's will walk back to Chicago.

I also have a dream: That one day, ignorant people like you, however idiotic I find their opinions and arguments, will at least learn how to use apostrophes correctly, and not just insert them at random; and that they will also learn that words following a colon should be capitalised.

KIA: WTF?  Why is the sun still here?  There's a blue sky and everything!

I was told that the sky was going to fall and we'd be lost in the everlasting night without Big Government here to guide me...

The guy who wears the Smokey the Bear costume at a National Park in New Mexico is NOT GOING TO BE AT WORK TODAY.

WHICH  PART OF THIS SITUATION DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND???

Sure, he's going to be fully reimbursed in 2.5 days when this whole thing ends, and will end up with a paid vacation, but after the shutdown of the Panda Cam AND the loss of the ticket taker at the National Museum of African Art, I just don't know how much more America can take ...
