It's a nice rundown, some things I wouldn't have even thought of will be effected.

I'm a non-essential Fed. I've got 4 hours tomorrow to tie down loose ends, then it's vacation time.

Assholes will probably settle it before I get any fishing in.

Yawn. Farkers don't seem to realize that the government has been shut down about 2 dozen times in the last 40 years. People always get their panties in a twist thinking it's going to destroy the country, and it never does. On the plus side, watching all the die hard liberals freak the hell out because their precious government is shutdown is hilarious.

Why do 'non-essential' fed employees have jobs? If they are non-essential, they're not needed.

The way it affects me in Britain is that news about your weak-kneed political time-servers, who are more concerned with their personal vendettas and private power struggles than the problems of government; who sacrifice their credibility by denying free debate on vital matters in the mistaken impression that party unity comes before the well-being of the people they supposedly represent; who are squabbling little toadies without an ounce of concern for the vital social problems of today; and are crabby ulcerous little self-seeking vermin with furry legs and an excessive addiction to alcohol and certain explicit sexual practices which some people might find offensive, is taking up an inordinate and preposterous amount of space in our newspaper, television and radio reports and thereby displacing news about our weak-kneed political time-servers, who are more concerned with their personal vendettas and private power struggles than the problems of government; who sacrifice their credibility by denying free debate on vital matters in the mistaken impression that party unity comes before the well-being of the people they supposedly represent; who are squabbling little toadies without an ounce of concern for the vital social problems of today; and are crabby ulcerous little self-seeking vermin with furry legs and an excessive addiction to alcohol and certain explicit sexual practices which some people might find offensive.

Every other time federal employees eventually got paid. Do you really think that is going to happen this time? Unless you are generally ok with 800,000 unemployed people for no good reason and the economic impacts that go along with that.

DrSansabeltNoShiatSlacks: Why do 'non-essential' fed employees have jobs? If they are non-essential, they're not needed.

95% of the jobs in this country are non-essential, meaning that the job really don't have to be done on any particular day.

Non-essential in a WWIII breaks out tomorrow scenario. As time goes on, more and more jobs become essential as things start breaking or safety and or conduct of society become imperiled.

2013-10-01 07:45:35 AM
These days, it doesn't affect me.
2 years ago, on the "almost" shutdown, I lost my position.

The guy who wears the Smokey the Bear costume at a National Park in New Mexico is NOT GOING TO BE AT WORK TODAY.

WHICH PART OF THIS SITUATION DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND???

Sure, he's going to be fully reimbursed in 2.5 days when this whole thing ends, and will end up with a paid vacation, but after the shutdown of the Panda Cam AND the loss of the ticket taker at the National Museum of African Art, I just don't know how much more America can take ...

This is not the fault of the Republicans or the Tea Party in any way. They have tried repeatedly to compromise with FartB0Bma0 and the democrat party, but the dems have refused to budge. The democrat party is the true obstructionists, as they continue to feverishly snorkel the sausage of their perfumed Dicktator-in-Chief. We have given them chance after chance to recant and repeal their odious legislation and remove their murderous man-child from an office he has no business occupying, and they have fought us every step of the way. So fine. The government is shut down and there's nothing any of you worthless democrat welfare leeches can do about it. I hope you're happy. As for the rest of you proud GOP Americans, if you see a Liberal today, do your country a favor and beat the living shiat out of him.

To all those bellyaching about how a literal minority is managing to exert "undue" influence on the system, I'd like to remind you of Prop 8. It was voted on and passed by the majority, but the minority did not accept defeat. *Note*, I am not in any way saying this is wrong in any sense. Just the opposite, in fact. That's the wonderful thing about this country. In that case, social responsibility was the cause of the minority, and they ultimately prevailed. In this case, fiscal responsibility is the cause of the minority. Let us hope that they prevail as well.

Whoa there! Sweet noggin meat... of congresscritters? That might be dangerous. I mean, even beyond the rancidity problems, some of them just don't have anything, and breaking the seal on a vacuum that strong could cause a catastrophic implosion.

2013-10-01 08:10:40 AM
Economists say even a short shutdown - of three or four days - would begin to shave decimal points off economic growth. A sustained shutdown of three or four weeks "would do significant economic damage," economist Mark Zandi told USA TODAY.

It's a good thing we aren't in the middle of an anemic recovery following a recession that just fell short of being a full depression or we could be in for some pain.

Thanks a lot democrats! Thanks for not caring about America, again! democrats fear of harassment from the uber left liberal jackboot has caused most democrats to cowardly support barrycare. Knowing that it is harming the middle class, democrats refuse to even talk about the healthcare law. All the GOP wants is to postpone this for a year until it's fixed and to make sure the Congress and the administration that are forcing Americans to use barrycare also have to use it without the subsidies that most Americans don't have access to. Why should congress, their staff, the president and his people not have to participate? They're the ones that keep saying how great it is.
The one irony about this dopey healthcare law is the same looney lib stinkhippies from OWS will now be forced to shell out $$$ for this. Looks like the protestors will get to experience "paying their fair share" for a change.
If you are a 27+ year old lib and you're not signed up and are just going to pay the fine, that makes you a racist by not supporting barry's law.
Thanks again democrats for shutting down America!
