Benjamin Stone: I really was feeling the Lost finale all the up until the church because I thought the alternate timeline was just that: an alternate timeline. And that they would all begin to remember each other but still go on living a 'normal' life off the island in this new timeline.

I'll admit I wasn't paying as much attention the first time through as I should have, but it was my interpretation that the "ending" was them meeting up in the church after they had all died in the alternate timeline.  They were coming back together after being separated for a lifetime to come back to the island.

I will wholeheartedly admit to not paying attention to LOST past the second season, but I did watch all the episodes with my wife.  I could be completely wrong here.

Lindelof is a massive hack. We know it, he knows it and he's laughing all the way to the bank.

Hey, that's a good point. I only watched the finale once when it happened (and I wasn't nearly as pissed as everyone else seemed to be) so that's a possibility. I got the idea that the alternate timeline was in fact a purgatory and not a true alternate reality and that once they resolved their issues in the purgatory then they could move on blah blah blah.

I would have preferred for the alternate timeline to be just that: an alternate timeline in a physics (or Sliders) sense and have them somehow recapture their memories of the Island timeline and still get to live on in reality while all realizing what they'd been through.

Or something.

/I also didn't pay much attention after the second season
