I read in another article that the homeowner shot and killed the girl and her husband with a 22LR revolver. Don't let anyone tell you a 22 is not a lethal round.

It will sure as hell kill someone you shoot in the eye or the heart (if it didn't get stopped by the rib cage). They might die from a lung shot or a shot that perforates their stomach; especially if the wound becomes septic.

/ Even at a distance; you can make people, or animals, wish to be elsewhere.

I have read that .22s cause the most deaths by far, because of their ubiquity.

/ Anecdote, I have seen actual statistics

Jennings .22 auto is accurate if you keep it clean, oiled, have a coal fire to dispose of it.

It's definitely deadly, the problem is that you're more reliant on hitting just the right spot and having them bleed out quickly. Larger calibers and using hollow points leave more room for less than perfect aim, which is going to happen in an actual fire fight, even with good marksmen. Better to carry a small caliber than none at all though.

The human body is essentially a loose bag of vulnerable stuff with a spine. Pretty much anything can be lethal, especially if you hit an artery. That's why it's silly to think of just about any serious projectile as "safer".

/.22 is the assassin's choice, also

When relatives are outlawed, only outlaws will have in-laws.

If only someone in that house was armed with a relative, these things could be prevented. It's my theory of relativity.

Scene is seven miles from my house. My husband graduated with the female shooter. Beyond creeped out around here but at least everyone's playing armchair CSI and planning on what to wear to the viewings Wednesday.

Any buzz on what caused the rift in the family?

Well...this certainly skews that whole "you are x times more likely to kill a family member than a home intruder" statistic.

Oh lots. Theirs was one of those families people kind of stayed away from. Like you were taking a risk walking up the driveway kind of a vibe. So more will come out. The family scrambled quickly for damage control but the scuttlebutt is that there's a whole lot more that'll come out before it's all said & done.

And the family was likely not the only target. People have been saying that she'd always said she'd "get revenge" on the people who bullied her in school, for example. And there were a lot of them. I didn't know her well but I could've pointed her out in the hallway 25 years ago.

Small town. We also had a woman who stored her mummified children in a trunk (Stella Williamson; she's on serial killer lists) so this will be on the gossip list for decades.

A shotgun, a derringer, and a .22 revolver? You'd think between the five of them, they would have been able to afford at least one real gun...

Hey, I have it on good authority that a shotgun is all you need!  Double-barreled at that.
