And you say that with a straight face while completely ignoring the fact that it happens here in the United States, too, from the Bible thumping idiots that oppose ACA, but are perfectly fine with a government sanctioned toll crossing in every woman's uterus.

Which is totally the same as beheading people for blasphemy.

I see different flavors of the same bullshiat, both want God as a central factor in government.

No thank you. Go thump your Bible towards someone who cares.

mainstreet62: Ah, so 9/11 has turned into a joke, has it?

Fantastic. I always wanted to hear jokes about thousands of people dying. They're so funny!

Everything is funny or nothing is. There is proper time and place, context matters but nothing should be put on a pedestal and be exempt from being made light of.

The US treasury has barred Iranian airlines including Iran Air from being allowed to land or operate in the US. Furthermore, extraterritorial US sanctions prevents European airports from providing Iranian carriers with fuel or accepting money from them.

Unlike US flights, Iranian airlines still travel to London directly but are denied refuelling.

Hah... "Good luck!"

Ambitwistor: EWreckedSean: Why is this scary? Western culture will have far more effects on easing troubles with Iran than sanctions or bombs ever will.

Iran had one of the most westernized cultures in the region before the Islamic Revolution.  It didn't ease the subsequent troubles ... of course, a lot of that westernization came from the Shah who was considered a U.S. puppet ...

That's largely because the Shah was a brutal dictator reinstalled by the CIA in a coup against their democratically elected leader...

Considered? We helped overthrow the previous government because they didn't want to let British and American oil companies run roughshod over their countries, and installed the Shah who let us do whatever we wanted as long as we paid him off.

I'd be more scared for the Iranian-Americans who choose to visit Iran then would about the dangers of the return flights.

It's once a year easy we hear about an Iranian-American or Iranian-Canadian being imprisoned and/or murdered in prison on a visit to relatives in Iran.

Lolwut?

Today's theater-wide missile defenses have almost nothing in common with SDI/Star Wars. Some of the ERINT tech made it in to the Patriot defense system, but that's like saying you spent a hundred billion on the space program and managed to develop Tang out of it.

Intercepting an ICBM is completely different from intercepting a tactical missile. All the money dumped in to directed energy weapons, for example, is not part of any missile defense that works - those x-ray lasers and other sci fi beam weapons never have come close to working.

SDI turned into BMDO under Clinton turned into the Missile Defense Agency under Bush 43 which is what the program is currently which covers the whole range of anti-missle defense systems.

U.S. Moves on Syria, Iran Anger Saudi Arabia (pay wall) http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303643304579104910000148 876.html#articleTabs%3Darticle

Sorry, but the Wall Street Journal puts up an intermittent paywall after we link it. Please find a different source.

The Obama administration's handling of overtures on Syria and Iran have outraged regional ally Saudi Arabia, which is signaling it wants to do more to boost the power of armed Sunni rebel groups on the ground in Syria as the U.S. pursues diplomacy.

Saudis fear that Syrian President Basher al-Assad will use the time afforded by U.S.- and U.N.-backed diplomacy on Syria "to impose more killing and to torture its people," Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said Thursday night in New York, in a warning that was overshadowed by the attention paid to the weekend's first public contacts in three decades between the presidents of Iran and the U.S.

On Sept. 12, as Mr. Rouhani was tweeting some of the first Iranian overtures in decades to the West, former Saudi diplomat Turki al Faisal was telling a London defense forum that Iran's leaders should stand trial for war crimes for supporting Mr. Assad.

"The current charade of international control over Bashar's chemical arsenal would be funny if it were not so blatantly perfidious, and designed not only to give Mr. Obama an opportunity to back down, but also to help Assad butcher his people," Prince Turki said then.

If the Saudis cared about the people of Syria they would not have sent in "fighters" to free them to death.

neversubmit: If the Saudis cared about the people of Syria they would not have sent in "fighters" to free them to death.

The Saudis have their own problems oppressing and killing their OWN people.  Their concern for Iranians (non-Arabs and Shia vs the Saudi Sunnis) is laughable.

Really, this brings two theocracies together.  Both Israel and Saudi Arabia are pretty much the only Debbie Downers on this.  Canada too, but I imagine nobody gives  a shiat anymore what crap comes out of their current administration.

Harper's government is full-on American Neo-cons without the tans.
