Yes subby easing of decades long tensions between Iran and the US is scary.

Time until some derper suggests this is an attempt to attack us with Iranian terrorist planes...?

Someone alert the USS Vincennes!

Why is this scary? Western culture will have far more effects on easing troubles with Iran than sanctions or bombs ever will.

2013-09-30 12:37:35 PM
I think it'd be good to see something more concrete than a phone call first, but I welcome the idea of relations between Iran and the US getting less frigid.

Fantastic. I always wanted to hear jokes about thousands of people dying. They're so funny!

I'm okay with this. I personally know many Iranians in LA who would take advantage of these flights.

Exactly.  That's a  scary thought  if submitter is a neocon-moron who'se actively hoping for a US-Iran war.

Republicans need enemies.  Without enemies, they turn on each other.

Iran had one of the most westernized cultures in the region before the Islamic Revolution.  It didn't ease the subsequent troubles ... of course, a lot of that westernization came from the Shah who was considered a U.S. puppet ...

If this means more hot Iranian women roaming our streets, I for one support this move.

It is to the people of Iran.

Hurled shoes and eggs greet Iran's returning president

Protesters targeted the motorcade of Hassan Rouhani with shoes and eggs on Saturday as the Iranian president arrived home to a mixed reception from a landmark visit to the United Nations which concluded with a phone call with Barack Obama.

They still remember how they were treated by the US

The Vincennes was scrapped in 2011 and her idiot captain and probably the entire crew are no longer in the navy. They'll be fine.

Those protesters are a minor fraction of the Iranian people.  They're the Tea Derpers of Iran, the hardcore religious extremists who still hate America with the force of ten thousand suns.

Most Iranians, on the other hand, aren't like that.

In September of 2001, after the 9/11 attacks, there were spontaneous candle-light vigils held by thousands of Iranians in Tehran, for the victims of the AQ terrorists, and they held against the explicit wishes of the government.

In all honesty, it's been 12 years.  At some point, we have to move on and allow some black humor on the subject.

And you say that with a straight face while completely ignoring the fact that it happens here in the United States, too, from the Bible thumping idiots that oppose ACA, but are perfectly fine with a government sanctioned toll crossing in every woman's uterus.

It might as well be.  Iranian visa holders will find it a lot more convenient to have a direct flight to Iran, but I doubt any of them would consider it a good idea to step on a plane home for a week, just due to the difficulty and uncertainty of getting back into the USA.

How interesting you left this out from the same article you linked:

"His supporters, however, were present in greater numbers and greeted his return from New York with cheers and placards thanking him for seeking peace instead of confrontation. One banner read: "Yes to peace, no to war." "

Unlikely, considering the way the Iranians are making efforts to thaw this little Cold War.

Something makes me think that they took the whole Syrian thing seriously and want to avoid getting on Barack's bad list.

No, they did this to humiliate Obama because he was JUST ABOUT to bomb them, and anyone who says different doesn't know AIPAC or read the signs! A battleship was sent to the Persian Gulf just last week!

Here's a couple:
"I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency." --Vice President Dick Cheney, on the Iraq insurgency, June 20, 2005

"Freedom's untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things." -Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on looting in Iraq after the U.S. invasion, adding "stuff happens," April 11, 2003

Because isolating extremists and persecuting them always ends well.

Hey, remind me how they finally ended the IRA attacks in northern Ireland? I recall they tried the contain/strangle thing for decades, how'd that go?
