Type_Hard: Looks like the House GOP is going to take another swing at Obamacare in the next round...

Shutdown looms as House GOP tries again on ObamaCare

/good luck with that..

Reid should troll the House hard:

Accept the mandate repeal, and tack on a measure that shunts everyone to Medicare instead.

DeArmondVI: As always, Senator Sanders kicked total arse on the Senate floor. "This is not about the health care act, this is about legislating via blackmail and hostage taking." A paraphrase, "If we yield to these tactics now, they will not stop in the future. The far right has been clear for decades about hating Social Security and Medicare. If they can succeed in subverting the legislative process with blackmail and hostage taking, then the door is wide open for them to gut the social safety via those same means. This madness has to be stopped now, or else we can look forward to this same approach year after year after year."

I may not always listen to what politicians have to say, but when I do, I listen to Bernie Sanders.

Bernie and Leahy make a great team. We may be a small state, but sometimes we get people in office who can do big things.
Like Jim Jeffords switching parties to swing the majority. Or Leahy pissing off Cheney.
Makes my country bumpkin heart swell.

I don't think he has the stones to do it.  He's a wimp.

Hell, I would have the coin minted, and bring it to the negotiations. Tell them to convince me NOT to walk over to the fed and deposit it, and start a kitchen timer for 30 minutes.

They would love Obama to do this. They'd cry abuse of executive power, and they would finally get a reason to impeach. Not that there's be a conviction, but it would be great for the mid-terms. Real meat for the base at last. No, Obama should not do this.

They are going to do all of this anyway.  When the opposition throws every single thing they have at you, all of the time, they effectively silence themselves.  There's no reason to pay any attention to what they say, think, or do, because the outcome is the exact same no matter how you act.  So just act any way you want.

Can you honestly come up with something the GOP is holding back on, that they would then engage if Obama used the coin loophole?

he's right. if the dems cave on this (they won't), the GOP would go after medicare, medicaid, the EPA, the department of education, etc. they are a terror organization, and they must be stopped for the sake of the country.

"The modern GOP is the greatest threat to the United States."

Past hyperbole is quickly becoming reality

At this point, I can sum up the GOP thusly:

As of 6:45PM, GOP moderates are reported to be trying to stage a revolt, and pass a clean CR.  They're estimated to need just over 20, according to CNN.

We'll see how long this lasts.

The House is currently voting on yet another CR. Yet again, with a bunch of strings attached to the ACA. They have just a few more hours to do the right thing, and let the government function without trying to alter the law. If these Koch suckers want to alter the law, the Constitution lays out very clearly how a bill becomes a law.

If the Constitution is too tough for the Tea Party to read, then they can hope onto YouTube and watch School House Rock.

Holding the pay of hundreds of thousands of people hostage because they are sore losers about not getting what they want is just ridiculous. They had a chance to get their way via having their candidates win in 2012. They lost in the election and have to accept that reality.

We are five hours away from the deadline from a shutdown. If the GOP shuts down the government because they cannot accept governing realities, they deserve to be swept into the dustbin of history.

I am watching the debate on C-Span. I gotta say, Andy Barr would make a hell of a Communist propaganda machine.

The double speak and delusional bullshiat is insane

Crap, I missed it (I've been watching all day, got fed up and am watching Season 3 of the Walking Dead for the time being).

I saw Cruz on the Senate floor ealier today ask "What happens to that young college graduate who isn't able to find employment and won't be able to afford insurance?"

I almost put my fist through my monitor in pure rage over the intentional deception.

This is the GOP's biggest weakness:  they've been playing the fear card so long that everyone is numb to it.

Huh.  We're up to 12 House Republicans currently voting against this new House CR with the amendments...

2013-09-30 08:40:27 PM
Nope, never mind.  Not good enough to stop it.  The CR goes back to the Senate, amendments and all.  C-Span says the Senate will like vote within the hour.

Notice the Dems voting 'Yes' in the House.  They didn't want it to be 219-210.

They should kick it back with the mandate delay intact, but install the medicare eligibility magic single-payer kludge, and a note saying, "Hey, you wanted to negotiate, right?"

Why, is there some significance? I'm not sure why the dems voted for it.

To make the GOP look more in lock-step than they really are.  People won't look at who voted, just that the totals looks like all Republicans voted yes and all Dems voted no.  The Dems want the GOP to 100% look like they own this and won't compromise.
