InmanRoshi: cman: DeaH: It's not negotiation unless both sides want opposite things. The Democrats want to avoid hurting the economy, so they want to raise the debt ceiling. If the Republicans think that's negotiable, then they want to harm the American economy. If that's what they want, who wants to give them anything?

They don't believe it will hurt the economy

They specifically want to hurt the economy and America, because America rejected them in the last election.   They'll never grow to love America half as much as they hate it when a black Democrat is in office.   Right now they're like the homicidal psycho ex-boyfriend who goes to their ex-girlfriend's place of work and guns her and her co-workers down screaming "If I can't have you, no one can."

Yeah, I did forget about that

You are right

Using such verbose terms disregards the common educated person in their comprehension and enshrines oneself to neural entries of grand pomposity.

Sorry. I forgot about your two-syllable limit. Was there a word you needed help with?

I can use words of Germanic origin to explain it better:

Folks will think you are a learned prick who speaks down to them when you talk like that

The folks that think I'm a prick aren't looking at my vocabulary (word) choices.

Bontesla: ArkPanda: At this point the entire government rests on John Boehner.  The way the House is set up, the Speaker has complete control over what gets brought up for a vote and what gets tossed.  If he wants to bring the clean Senate CR to the floor, he can.  If he wants to screw around with the defund-Obamacare-and-birth-control version, he can.

Even if Boehner does his job, there are Republicans that have decided to side against Boehner. He has no control over the actual vote.

There are enough reasonable Republicans to get the bill passed if it would come to a vote.  Boehner might get voted out of office for letting it happen, but it would be better for the party as a whole.  He should take one for the team.

PhilGed: We may not like Obamacare.  The president may have admitted that he wants to change the law.  But it is the law right now.

This really has fark all to do with Obamacare, ultimately.   The Republicans put a gun to America's head in 2011 in the exact same way over some general ruse of "austerity".     If it wasn't Obamacare, it would be something else.     We're in this situation because the American media and the American voters have let what was at one time unthinkable and beyond the pale become the new normal (which just so coincidentally happened when a black man became President).

HindiDiscoMonster: there is a long history of successful expulsions as new as 2006

according to your link, a long history but not MANY - most of them were in the 1800's (from what I skimmed) and the three most recent were for outright illegal behavior (bribery, treason)

what is happening now isn't technically illegal - they are following protocol - a challenge may be made (Pelosi mentioned the 14th) but that would likely entail a legal opinion

also? if you noticed - the history of expulsions is generally ONE member - not an entire obstructionist group. be hard to "fix" this particular problem with an expulsion that requires 2/3rds

I say we let all the people making under 1 million a year die. Cut off all services, let the poors riot while the job creators are safe in their mansions with security guards. Then after that everything will be just fine.

Are they going to pay their security guards $1million a year each? And if so, then who is going to guard the security guards?

Now, I aint talking about linking me to some shiatty blog, twitter, or an Alex Jones like site. Reputable sources.

Until you have proof you are only speculating and attempting to pass it off as facts

You want proof that the democrats are the ones that want a government shutdown?

The Republicans are scared of a government shutdown. It will kill their chances of winning the next round of elections because everyone knows they will get blamed for it. The Democrats are salivating at the prospect of a government shutdown.

You think the Democrats care if ACA is delayed. It's not ready to go online. It's going to be a giant clusterfark. They have already delayed a bunch of parts of it. They want to delay it.

I got all the way to here before figuring out this wasn't satire.

There are Dems who do want to delay it but not for the same reason as the GOP. GOP thinks if they can delay it then they can ultimately defeat it. Dems that want to delay it want it for a different reason.

Since I cannot provide that reason because my Googlefu is weak today, this should be taken as a grain of salt. I remember reading about that a few Dems wanted it suspended, but I cannot for the life of me find where I read it.

That's where they want to go. But those calling for it tend to think the rest of us are going to go full thunderdome. More likely, the nation as a whole is going to say "fark that", and vote the motherfarkers off the island.

Or better yet, an act which allows every major city to enjoy at least the same level of representation as Wyoming.

What leaves me scratching my head is the fact that uninsured people are a big problem in the USA.  They use hospital emergency rooms as their primary care, the most expensive way to do it.  If they need major medical care, they either put the burden on hospitals (private corporations, yay), and ultimately the hard-working, tax-paying Americans.

So now there is a new law, yet to be enacted, offering a four-tiered option of lower cost health insurance.   If someone chooses, or can't, pay for even that, there is a tax of about $100 a year (I think) to cover the uninsured population when they get hit by a bus.

So, more people get insurance of some sort.  There's a fund to pay for the uninsured.  And Republicans are opposing this, why?  Are they really so short sighted and uncaring for America that they want to hurt corporations and taxpayers?  Do they really want to sabotage the Democrats that badly?
