Publikwerks: This is such a bad move by the GOP. There is no way the Senate even looks at the House bill, and polls show that people are going to blame the GOP for the shutdown. And a majority of Americans are ambivalent about the ACA. So if they win, they don't win anything from moderates. And if they force the shutdown, they lose big.

Meanwhile, Democrats can just sit back and watch. They have passed a clean CR, so they can say "we've done our part" and walk away. They win if the House caves, they win if the House doesn't cave.

Matter of fact, the longer and more painful the shutdown is, the better it is for the Democrats. All they have to do is turn their DVR's on and record everything for next fall.

You're forgetting something - the teapots who vote these clowns into office over and over,..that's where the real problem is.

Obamscare as bad as method, so yeah

What method would that be?

By getting people addicted to government handouts instead of being self reliant.

The self reliance would have been a lot easier if the Tea Party and Republicans had been more interested in a jobs bill rather than trying to defund the ACA 50 times. But at least that shows their true priority.

I've resigned myself to the understanding that a significant fraction of the House see Mad Max II: Beyond Thunderdome as an acceptable alternative to a successful and working health care system.

Meh.. when ObamaCare decides to do something crazy and actually allow a friend's pre-existing condition to be covered, then maybe I'll care.

Until then, it's just another medical plan that won't help with the hundred thousand minimum testing bills followed by the over 300,000 in bills for the actual fix.  Resulting in her being able to drive down the road without randomly being temporarily paralyzed from the waist down.  She even has the joys and wonders of knowing that some day she will be permanently paralyzed from the waist down.

(Ah, medical profession friends who like other medical profession people get advanced copies of all the revisions to any new health policies/laws/regulations)

I'll bet those leeches even spend money on vacations and save money for retirement.

Well, no, they don't. Since polls show most people are gonna blame the GOP, there is little reason to negotiate. The ACA is a lost cause. It's in effect, and is not going anywhere.

2013-09-30 08:27:59 AM
We may not like Obamacare.  The president may have admitted that he wants to change the law.  But it is the law right now.

It would be one thing if the fight hadn't happened, but it did.  It happened when it went through Congress the first time.  It happened when it was the cornerstone for creating the president's election campaign...and he got re-elected.

Now is not the time for this fight.  It is absolutely ridiculous to repeatedly keep seeing Congress ransom off a government shut down or collapsing the debt ceiling.   If you look back at the history of Congress, this is something that has almost always been sacred.  The debt ceiling and actually paying people who work were usually left out of the political arguments.

No one was stupid enough to risk our economy then, it's too bad they are now.

Boston had it right, throw all the tea into the ocean.  Time to start replacing people

Actually, if you aren't essential, as about 900,000 people are categorized, you don't get back pay unless it is approved by congress. So, through no fault of their own, 900,000 gov't employees don't get paid because 20 potatoes want to privatize medicare and give another handout to their petrol buddies.

I am someone who should be the bread and butter for the republican party. I am very cautious when it comes to change and want to make sure any change to the status quo is well reasoned and debated to ensure its the right course; basically I am a conservate. However, I will never ever vote for any person with an (R) next to their name. They blew it. Anyone who votes for Republicans is not a conservative, at this point the republican party is filled with Fundys waiting for the apocalypse, the uber rich, and the unimformed.

No. The ACA was passed, sued over, and ruled constitutional.

It isn't up for debate anymore. You can try repeal it after it's taken full effect. Go ahead. If it's so horrible then people will want it gone after it's in place.

It has no place in budget talks. No place in debt ceiling talks. Anyone trying to put it in is trying to hold the government hostage in order to deny Americans health care access and should be run out of Washington.

No, majority of Americans do not like Obamacare. Majority of businesses do not either. Only welfare bums and hard core left wing crazies think it will be anything but a disaster.
