That sounds like a much more interesting read.

I think the point of the books was that Bridget was an every-woman who struggled with self-control issues (with food, smoking and drinking), but managed to keep herself together, find some success and a good man.
It gave the average woman hope, and ability to escape into a hopefully realistic fantasy.

And now she kills off the "good man". You've lost your audience, Helen Fielding.

She'll turn lesbian and go AB-FAB. Then Colin Farrell will "fix" her lesbianism on a chance encounter on Ibiza.

She's going full Lucas.

I may have been the only woman who absolutely hated that movie.  I've never read the books because I just can't stand rom-coms.

I loved the books, the movies were okay. (You can't even count the 2nd one since most of what was in the film never even  happened in the book.)

I can't imagine what Helen Fielding is thinking though.  I really don't want to read this if she's a widow.  I figured she's be a neurotic mom, worrying about her kids and being a sort of comical helicopter parent, while trying to still keep a career and make her husband happy.  I don't give a fig about a 51 year old widow worried about wrinkles.

I really hope this is all false hype and not what the book is about at all.

The books were decent. Easy to read, especially the first. The movies upped the spaz quotient by 100. Where the books had the "oh jeez, I'm such a spaz" thought bubble when the situation wasn't that bad, the movies turned her into an actual, should-be-wearing-a-helmet spaz.

So much this.
