No matter how correct the statement, Alan Jackson is the incorrect person to be expressing it.

Detinwolf: It's only logical that country would seize the same bubblegum formula that makes pop so profitable.  Taylor Swift is sort of the ultimate amalgamation of this formula - she was designed to draw kids from country and pop backgrounds into this awesome money vortex of suck.

For all the hate she gets I still respect Taylor Swift. She started out the old fashioned way & sings about being a teenage girl, like a real person would experience. That's what country was always about. Divorce, alcoholism, death, break-ups, and pain because real people experience those things. Taylor Swift just doesn't have many experiences.

I have 14 year-old daughter that agrees with me. No she isn't 'real' country. It's music for teenage girls, so my daughter likes it.
I can respect that over Miley Cyrus getting there via Disney or Carrie Underwood via a contest. And thank god it isn't that boy-band garbage. My kids know that is just shiat.

It's too easy to find good music to care much about Clear Channel and the MTV VMAs.

You mean the guy who wrote and sang "Gone Country" about a bunch of has-been acts in other genres revitalizing their careers in country...is mad that a bunch of has-been acts in other genres are revitalizing their careers in country?

Kind of dark for country, though.

SharkaPult: amishkarl: 'Country' music radio is dead. It's been replaced by Redneck! music radio

I call it "Southern Fried" Pop music.  But yeah, my post RIGHT after yours echoes the same sentiment.

Really pisses me off. I'm a farmer and everyone sees that redneck crap as being what rural people and farmers are like. Jacked up trucks are for idiots that don't need a truck. Namedropping John Deere doesn't make you a farmer. Getting drunk isn't something to be proud of.

Just because Alan Jackson doesn't know legit underground country artists doesn't mean the genre is dead

Bullsh*t!    Country music ain't dead ....it just smells funny....

Corb Lund, Hank III, Ridley Bent, Hayes Carll, Dustin Bentall, Tim Hus...all seem to be carrying the torch...seems to me country is alive and doing just fine.

Alan, there is a thing called the internet, get someone to show you how to use it!

Music that gets airplay is mostly lame pop music. This has been true for decades.
