IlGreven: You mean the guy who wrote and sang "Gone Country" about a bunch of has-been acts in other genres revitalizing their careers in country...is mad that a bunch of has-been acts in other genres are revitalizing their careers in country?
New Age Redneck: dallylamma Cheers! 7 Corb Lund shows and counting....saw the smalls several times too....great to see him doing so well especially south of the border. Thanks for posting everybody....off to the u-tubes....
amishkarl: 'Country' music radio is dead. It's been replaced by Redneck! music radio
uncoveror: It is all teen pop with hats and boots because that is what sells.
SharkaPult: amishkarl: 'Country' music radio is dead. It's been replaced by Redneck! music radioI call it "Southern Fried" Pop music. But yeah, my post RIGHT after yours echoes the same sentiment.

But yeah, my post RIGHT after yours echoes the same sentiment.Really pisses me off. I'm a farmer and everyone sees that redneck crap as being what rural people and farmers are like. Jacked up trucks are for idiots that don't need a truck. Namedropping John Deere doesn't make you a farmer. Getting drunk isn't something to be proud of.
verbaltoxin: DrSansabeltNoShiatSlacks: Show me the next Haggard or J. Cash.Deke Dekerson, Junior Brown, The Bottlerockets, Shooter Jennings, Hank III, early Wilco, Unknown Hinson - that's just off the top of my head.
New Age Redneck: Bullsh*t! Country music ain't dead ....it just smells funny.... Corb Lund, Hank III, Ridley Bent, Hayes Carll, Dustin Bentall, Tim Hus...all seem to be carrying the torch...seems to me country is alive and doing just fine. Alan, there is a thing called the internet, get someone to show you how to use it!
Doc Batarang: The problem I personally observe with country music is that the development end sucks. I've been to showcases with friends for music festivals and such - call them try-outs - and heard nothing but covers. Any aspiring country band is evaluated on their ability to play old hits not on their ability to potentially write them. Compared to rock music, metal and punk rock included, a individual band's efforts are evaluated on their ability to be simultaneously original, derivative and entertaining, not merely mimicking past successes of other people. In order for country to get back on track, it needs to actually quit radio (their traditional biggest audience) and go out to find the people who want to listen to original music. It sure isn't country music fans, who are just as happy to listen to anything that comes out of either magic box regardless of what it is.
Detinwolf: It's only logical that country would seize the same bubblegum formula that makes pop so profitable. Taylor Swift is sort of the ultimate amalgamation of this formula - she was designed to draw kids from country and pop backgrounds into this awesome money vortex of suck.
UrukHaiGuyz: and you just lost 90% of Fark. :) I listen to the local country station, and an annoyingly high percentage of what they play is fake redneck alt-rock, or whatever they're trying to pass of as country now. The good stuff is out there, and it's not trying to cash in on rural stereotypes. Seriously, check out Corb Lund if you haven't. His songs have humor, and approach rural life from an honest, non-demeaning perspective.

She started out the old fashioned way & sings about being a teenage girl, like a real person would experience. That's what country was always about. Divorce, alcoholism, death, break-ups, and pain because real people experience those things. Taylor Swift just doesn't have many experiences.I have 14 year-old daughter that agrees with me. No she isn't 'real' country. It's music for teenage girls, so my daughter likes it. I can respect that over Miley Cyrus getting there via Disney or Carrie Underwood via a contest. And thank god it isn't that boy-band garbage. My kids know that is just shiat. It's too easy to find good music to care much about Clear Channel and the MTV VMAs.
brandent: DrSansabeltNoShiatSlacks: Show me the next Haggard or J. Cash.Or even the current Emmylou Harris.
NateAsbestos: Bookmark. Been looking for real country for a while.Someone linked William Elliot Whitmore... well done! And if anyone cares, the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack is great western music
Rev. Skarekroe: DrSansabeltNoShiatSlacks: Show me the next Haggard or J. Cash.OK.Done.
Crewmannumber6: What used to be called country music is now considered Americana, and there's some good shiat out there
amishkarl: Getting drunk isn't something to be proud of.
GibbyTheMole: John Buck 41: OTOH, he's more 'country' (if that word has ANY meaning anymore) than the Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swifts, Carrie Underwoods, ad nauseum of the world.Yup. I expect that kinda thing from Taylor Swift, but you know the music industry shiatheads are nailing down the coffin lid when the new Tim McGraw single "Southern Girl" uses farking auto-tune, and Luke Bryan is name-dropping rappers. Also, I refuse to air this lowest common denominator piece of shiat.
dallylamma: Add Chris Knight to the list, although his songs are depressing as shiat...
