If he wanted to go for a mail-order bride in Utah, you would think he would've at least chosen one that was hotter than the average local Mormon girl.

Hi, I'm so hopeless I had to hire a wife from a different country and agreed to a two page ad for the human traffickers along with a prominent "This is a bad idea" warning about all the dangers of what I did right next to it.  By the way you should note this gem:  "...and he liked the idea. So he bought a home computer."  That's right my first online experience was going to a shady website to pay for a bride.

Yikes.

BumpInTheNight: Yikes.

Yeah, sure, I guess. But we do have a very inflexible view on how marriages happen. I know, for example, quite a few people in India who have arranged marriages and are completely happy with their situation.  By comparison the US has a divorce rate that's about 50X that of India.

I'm not saying everyone should run out and give these guys their Amex number but I also think we should admit our system has warts a plenty.

People that use mail-order bride services tend to be creepballs who are too sweaty and awkward to attract mates from societies where women are generally regarded as humans.

i believe it's real. that girl is a negative 100 on ukrainian scale. walk down one of the main streets in kiev and you'll know what i'm talking about---the average girl there is better looking than the best looking one you'll see in a year in just about any other place.

Eastern European women are often proof of the Barney Stinson Hot/Crazy rule. Having said that though, in general the divorce rate stats around marriages involving one person gaining citizenship through matrimony are substantially lower than the general divorce rate stats (whereas the urban myth would suggest they should be higher).

Glad you know so much about the subject (and no, I am not married right now).

It *is* entirely possible that he just wanted a woman without attitude, has old fashioned values, and will be appreciative of the life-style improvement she is going to receive. Also, it is possible she is tired of the out of work (and possibly drunk much of the time)  male peers she had to deal with that treat women with little or no respect.

/MHO only.

i joined anastasiadate last year and i liked it even though it was very expensive.  after wasting time on match.com and eharmony.com, sending emails to dozens of women who never emailed me back, it was nice to join a site where the women were actually willing to have conversations with you and try to get to know you.

online dating here in the states was just depressing and frustrating.  i'm in decent shape, i'm educated, and i want to start a family.  but i guess the women i emailed wanted someone who was two inches taller than me, or someone who made more money or something.  i sent out almost 50 emails on match.com and got four responses.  i didn't meet any women and not once did a woman email me first.  i felt like i was just sending out emails for no reason.

every woman i emailed on anastasiadate emailed me back, and i got to talk to a few women in their chatrooms too.  it was fun and refreshing because they actually went out of their way to initiate conversations and they didn't mind if we didn't have much in common, they were more than happy to just chat about little things, like their favorite foods or what music they liked.  i didn't feel like i was being judged, and that if i wasn't the perfect man they would stop talking to me or something like that.  i've never been confident with women anyway, so this was a great feeling.  and we had tons to talk about since our lives were so different, every topic was full of new information and discovery.  it was a lot of fun.

right now i'm dating a woman named evgeniya from ukraine, we've been talking on chat and emails since last february and i plan to visit her this coming january.
