Is there a boy's team? No? Then STFU.

Title IX weeps for you, New York State Public High School Athletic Association Executive Director Robert Zayas, and your awesomely long title.

Those boys just hit the jackpot, lawsuit time, and it is an bulletproof claim.  If they though having a boy's volley ball team was expensive they are in for a world of pain.

TFA: "Having coached both boys and girls and being around this sport for 20 years, I can attest that it absolutely makes a difference," she said. "Even if they're not hitting at the front, they're blocking at the front of the net. There's absolutely no reason Horace Greeley couldn't have formed a team and been part of our league. Those two boys are taking two spots from two girls. You watch my boys hit and block, then watch girls do it and tell me if it's all the same."

Also FTFA: Seniors Andrew Lafortezza and Jason Elbaum have been playing for the girls' volleyball team at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua after the boys' team was scratched due to budgetary constraints.

Massive butthurt is massive.

Isn't it time we all evolved to where true gender equality can smash down the barriers of the oppressive patriarc.. oh, wait, two dudes encroaching on private, for girls only territory.  Send the whiny little punks home.

"Peter Kuczma, the athletic director at Greeley High, downplayed that notion. "There are advantages when you put boys on the court, but these kids are not intimidating," he said. "When Andrew sets a ball, he does it very nicely...Today's female athlete is much bigger, faster and stronger than they were 20 years ago."

Someone is going to learn a very expensive lesson.

Multiple stories recently of girls fighting for the right to play on boy's sports teams, yet when the tables are turned, it's unfair and they have to go?

They should say they are transgendered, then the school would leave them alone.

Which is it, liberal education establishment?  Boys are the same or they aren't.

If you have a son or young men in your life that matter to you, and haven't read The War Against Boys, do them and yourself a favor and pick up/download a copy.

That an athletic director of anything (and you) think 20 years is enough time for a substantial physiological change to spontaneously occur in human beings?  Yes, perplexed.   Or that kids are apparently being force-fed a steady diet of growth hormones and steroids.  Yeah, perplexed if this is happening too.

So sorry, my mistake.  This is a twofer.

Any person, male of female, should already be putting their own best interests first. Take care of yourself, don't let yourself get infected by others' anxiety (what we often heroically claim as "empathy" is usually just emotional infection that helps no-one), and learn to love and respect yourself and not depend on others for validation (validate yourself), and you'll do fine. This goes triple for married folks. Your spouse is a big boy/girl. They can handle not being coddled like a little child (if they can't, they'll adapt and this will be better for them in the long term). You weren't put on the face of this earth just to agree with your spouse on everything, and neither were they. Understand this. Live it. Be strong and stand on your own feet and handle your own problems and let them handle theirs. It'll make them more attracted to you as well.

All athletes, even female high school athletes, are bigger, faster, and stronger today than 20 years ago. The "bigger" part isn't exactly surprising considering that society as a whole weighs more than we did 20 years ago. The "faster" and "stronger" parts are due to advancements in sport science and more efficient training regimens.

Has anybody ever wondered what we do all this "bigger, more, stronger, I have more for ME, I am acceptable and strong enough today" bullsh*t for?

Has it ever occurred to anybody that we allow a bunch of mongs with a carrot on a stick make to us dance and demand that we constantly push our limits to make THEM more successful in exchange for a roof and food and an attaboy?

That we are constantly pushing our fellow men and women out of the way to be the strongest, coldest, most sly, rughless, most self interested prick so that the people with the best authority pose can profit from it, but we're still not stunningly happy unless there's somebody around to pat us on the head and say "good job!  You did what WE demanded of you!"?  I do.

"You can do it!  You can aspire!  You can push yourself beyond your limits and make us richer and be a SUCCESS!"  Actual happiness optional.  I think we're a load of suckers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was the middle school student from Scotland who was owning high school girls because... well... field hockey is popular for both boys and girls in Scotland and he's been playing for several years vs the girls who thought that "chicks with stixs" was a cool cliche, so they just picked it up in high school?

bunner: I think all this "me first, and f*ck you" bullsh*t IS the disease.

I realize I'm pushing an unpopular opinion, but putting your own interests first doesn't necessitate taking the attitude of "fark everyone else". Getting caught up in someone else's negativity is not empathy and it doesn't help them. "Me first and fark you" is only half of the disease. The other half is the expectation that everyone else will ALSO put you first. I'm sure you see this all the time, everyone whining to have society (or any particular group, or their spouse, etc) conform to them. I agree that is a disease but it's not what I'm proposing. I'm talking something more along the lines of "me first for me, and you first for you." If you empathize because it's demanded of you, that only makes the problem worse.

I'd bet good money that if we all magically starting worrying about ourselves first and stopped expecting others to worry about us first, then real empathy and understanding would flow more freely. It would come from a real place and not from begrudging obligation.

bunner: That we are constantly pushing our fellow men and women out of the way to be the strongest, coldest, most sly, rughless, most self interested prick so that the people with the best authority pose can profit from it, but we're still not stunningly happy unless there's somebody around to pat us on the head and say "good job! Don't know if you were still talking about me with this but this perfectly illustrates my point about the need to validate ourselves. In other words: put yourself first, and the good of your family/society/whatever else you care about will naturally follow suit.

Fafai: Don't know if you were still talking about me

Nope.  I'm talking more about broad scope authority poses and the sh*t we put ourselves through to live up to them.  Tell somebody in a 3,000.00 suit to fu*k themselves, today.  Not your friend who's feeling blue.

Looks like they canceled guys volleyball.  So with no guys team, the girls have to allow buys to apply.  Equality goes both ways.

2013-09-29 08:30:16 PM
Race only scholarships (okay as long as the race is not Caucasian).  Gender only schools (always okay when gender is female, sometimes, but more rarely when male).  Social clubs, country clubs, sports leagues, ladies nights, etc.   Girls have to be allowed to play boys sports if their is no equivalent for girls. Boys, not so much.

Whoever said everyone is equal, just some are more equal than others hit it on the head.

Yes. Thisby has no idea what he's talking about. You'd need a lot more information - and certain facts to turn out certain ways - before you could ever call that a "bulletproof claim".

Kim Cleary, the boys' volleyball coach at Suffern High School, disagrees with Kuczma."Having coached both boys and girls and being around this sport for 20 years, I can attest that it absolutely makes a difference," she said. Those two boys are taking two spots from two girls. You watch my boys hit and block, then watch girls do it and tell me if it's all the same."Apparently, Cleary is a terrible coach, at least when she coaches girls.

they shouldn't play. When you have mixed sports, 9 times out of 10 the team is going to trend towards all men (with some exceptions). Now, of course, the school should probably be forced to field a men's volleyball team but that's an entirely different matter.

You proposing a two person men's volleyball team? Frankly, I think they'd prefer playing on a mixed team to being vastly outnumbered.
