I can see e-Meth getting posted to a lot of future e-cig threads.

The Tina Fey years were among (but not the) worst years in SNL history.  I don't really see what their fetish is on bringing those guys back every week to host.

Loved Tina Fey but 'the equally wonderful Arcade Fire'?      Yeah, I get the 'stop liking what I don't like' meme, but seriously?   SOMEONE likes these bozos?    WTF is it they do anyway?   I don't detect ANY talent and they are majorly annoying.  How do they have a career?

Arcade fire was farking awful.

The show itself wasn't too shabby.. Some of the new cast members show promise..

She went on to do a great TV show, Amy Poehler's been amazing in Parks and Rec, and both of them together are funny as hell (see The Golden Globes). The show may have not been great back then, but their recent work has been stellar.

They've got a few good songs off of Neon Bible and The Suburbs, but overall their stuff sounds the same after awhile.

This. They made a big deal about her being the first female lead writer, but lead out her tenure sucked bad. Any other show would have been canned during her wretched reign.

It is one of the great constants of Fark that if a band is so much as briefly mentioned in a headline or article, the thread will consist of people talking about how terrible said band is.

Not that I'm white knighting Arcade Fire, I just find it funny that Fark has yet to find a single music act that it didn't absolutely hate.

They're the best rock-based band of the last 10 years. You don't have to have them in your top 10 list or anything, but if you don't like them at all it's safe to say you have poor taste in music overall.

Rock-based, meaning the primary instruments are guitar, bass, drums, and keys, and the songs are primarily written around guitar riffs and rock drum beats.

so, what genre is "mumbling incoherently and off-key" while a ten piece band bangs away on instruments, seemingly as though they each got a different set of sheet music?"

They made Lana Del Ray's performance look like the Beatles

It's best not to judge a band based on one single live television perormance. Their body if work speaks for itself.

No mention of the Arcade Fire 30 minute post-SNL show "Here Comes the Night Time" featuring cameos from Bono, Ben Stiller, James Franco and Michael Cera?  I thought that was like pouring gasoline on a hater fire.

Just working you up a little.

Music either hits your soul and makes you feel emotion, or it doesn't. Their music doesn't do that for me, apparently it does for you.

I wasn't being facetious, I'd genuinely like to know what your musical proclivities are. I realize Arcade Fire isn't it everyone, especially the new album.

Granted, I like almost all kinds of music, from bluegrass to worldbeat to dubstep and almost everything in between.

For anyone so interested, I recommend listening to the following tracks by Arcade Fire before making a final judgement:

Keep the Car Running
Intervention
Modern Man
Rococo
Sprawl II

In my opinion those are their best songs to date.

Arcade Fire wasn't bad, although I couldn't see the point of the grumpy mumbling chick.

The whole thing proved that the remaining non-Kenan male cast members are pretty much useless. I'm just grateful for the Girls parody and the not-porn-stars-anymore.

Arcade Fire confused me. I'd heard OF them before but I thought they were one of those recent bands that plays the ukelele and washboard or whatever. You know, old timey stuff.

I'm not judging, I was just like huh? The first song they played was decent I guess.

I just could not get into Funeral after repeatedly listening. Neon Bible, however, sunk its claws deep into me on the first listen and it remains one of the most amazing albums I have ever heard. Keep The Car Running and (Antichrist Television Blue) are just stunning.

I've never heard The Suburbs, how is it?

Also, do want to see Arcade Fire kick arse live? Look up their Austin City Limits performances.

I thought it was a pretty decent episode.  The opening monologue was pretty bad and so was Arcade Fire, but the majority of the sketches were actually funny for a change.  I also thought Cecily Strong did a really good job on Weekend Update.

The mommy years have taken almost all of Tina's hotness.

Sad but it happens to all hot women dumb enough to have kids.

There should be a law that hot women are required to have surrogates.

Because bad years at SNL frequently correspond to successful post-SNL careers for some reason.

The season premiere did not sparkle with comedy, but there were entertaining moments, e.g. "New Cast Member or Arcade Fire?"
I thought the new woman on Weekend Update smiled too much as she read the news.

It seems to me like the 1st episode of any season should be among the best. The writers have had weeks to think of stuff and the production of the show itself is probably down to a science

Arcade Fire's pretentiousness level is getting out of hand.

'Manual Blondiks' was the best sketh of the night, which is too bad because it's formulaic 12:45 filler material.

All the new featured players are kind of odd looking.
