Didn't this exact same thing happen between him and some other kid?

I don't know.  Maybe he just does that sort of thing.  Don't even really know who this guy is very well.

Yes, he does this, my theory is he has people in the lobby of the theatre looking for people with the signs and asking them to sing a few bars.  If they are good they get a nice ticket upgrade and he brings them onstage if he feels like it.  So half setup, half real.

Maybe.

CSB time:

I was at a Smashing Pumpkins concert once when they were touring in small clubs in their final year. James Iha and D'Arcy were 'sick', so Billy Corgan did a solo set. He pulled a couple of college kids out of the crowd to play backup, with the admonishment 'don't suck, or you're outta here'. It went pretty well.

I've always wondered if that was real, or if it was some sort of setup. Either way, it was an awesome concert, so who cares? Same thing here.

Yeah he does this kind of thing all the time. At one show some college guy had an "Austin 3:16" sign so he invited him on stage for a couple of beers. Mid chug the guy gives him a stunner. Damn near whupped his ass (w/video)

Does Canada have some sort of insidious plot to destroy the US by sending us their whitest entertainers?

Yeah, but the scale is balanced out with their comedians and newscasters.

I don't know.  For every one of those, there's at least one of these.

I like Michael Buble, but can the people he brings on stage stop singing "Feeling Good"?

Green Day has a long history of pulling people out of the crowd to play with them, how good it is depends on the luck they have. When I saw them, Billy Joe walked out with what looked like a new guitar, hands it to the kid to play for the song, then when the kid tries to hand it back after the song he tells the kid to keep the guitar. Did that every night of the tour. And he doesn't have a guitar endorsement deal so wasn't like he was calling up the factory going "Yeah, send me 50 guitars...". This was something out of his own pocket, and yeah he can easily afford it, but lots of people could afford to do similar things and don't.

I seem to remember some brouhaha about the guitars.  Wasn't he giving away really crappy Squire strat knockoffs? (the kind you get your 8 year old for Christmas for $100 in a box set with a cheap-ass 5W amp and an instructional DVD).

I was imagining an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. Would make more sense given his go-to Gibson Jr and it's only $129.

I'd invite her to share a broom closet backstage.

She upstaged Michael Bublé? What'd she do, sing the song?

Bublé can sing, but mostly he doesn't. Instead, he launches hammily into a sort of parody of a Vegas lounge act. Seriously, it's among the worst stylistic excess and just damned embarrassing.

If you like that sort of thing, that's fine, but I hope he isn't mystified over why so many people crack up when they hear him singing. Good voice, lousy act.
