Good song but I don't think they ever amounted to much. They're not The Ruttles, that's for sure.

Just watched again... Never knew George sang part of the lead with Paul. One to grow on.

However, it was probably Elvis that put me there in the first place...

When my Dad was in his final days, he was kind of loopy from pain killers. We were watching TV and a Sullivan commercial came on. He said, " They should have shot that Sullivan. He brought them Beatles over and they started the Viet Nam war." Made little sense, but made me laugh. RIP Dad...

And thus started the age of mediocre talent (at best), over-hyped boy bands.

Ed was good though

They played strawberry fields, I've read. I heard there was no footage, or audio. Was there audio?

There's some home movie footage (no audio).

The audio is available on Elton John's Here and There live album (they played Whatever Gets You Through The Night, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, and I Saw Her Standing There)

I'm so old I remember the debut of ELVIS on Ed Sullivan!!!
I also miss all the great old comedians from that show and, of course, Topo Giggio

I loved Ed Sullivan. He always had the  best people in his audience.

"Right here...right here in our audience tonight - the worlds largest nun!" (applause) "Don't get up, Sister!"

Yeah, Ed was the best!

Name me some bands from the 00s, 90s,  or 80s that will still be widely known and getting played frequently 50 years after their debut.

I disagree with several of these and have my doubts on the others, regardless, drinks are on me 50 years from now. (It will probably be Ensure and Vodka for me, or maybe Saline Solution & Vodka).

Loved Ed Sullivan! He may have been dour, humorless, and petty but he sure could recognize acts that would entertain the masses. His shows had everything from borscht belt to cutting edge comics, opera to rock singers, silly animal and spinning plate acts, scenes from Broadway plays and musicals, and last but not least (for the kiddies) the Muppets and Topo Gigio.
